The things I need to know.....

Recommended Posts

Hey guys!! This is my first time making a post but I'm having my sleeve surgery on Aug 4th and we'll find the guideline of shakes, soft foods, etc.. Is there anything else I need to know to get prepared? How often are you guys working out?

Just want to have the best possible results so wanted to ask you guys! :)

§ Start getting in better shape. I walked, lifted, and did as much as I could 5 times a week getting ready for surgery.

§ Started practicing eating slower for lunch.

§ Watched many videos, talked to people who had been through it.

§ Oh, but best work was preparing for the mental changes with my therapist and worked through this book: http://www.amazon.co...=bariatric book

§ I drank a great deal of alcohol so I weaned myself off and slowly cut the caffeine.

§ Followed the pre-op diet to the letter

§ Shopped two weeks before surgery for the foods I would need for the first two weeks.

§ Revised my will and power of attorney just in case something went wrong

§ Tried pureed meal ideas before surgery so I had some meal plans.

shopping and having your needed items at home is a GREAT idea!

have a heating pad at home and waiting for you

have SONIC ice (little pellet ice), it's so great to have as your ice chips at home

have lot's of stuff to watch on TV, DVR.. or search the web :P

have comfy pillows for lying on your side (if you are a side sleeper)

cut down caffeine

I just had surgery last Thursday and came home Saturday and these are my words of wisdom so far :P

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
