How Much Weight Did You Lose in the First Couple if Weeks?

Recommended Posts

Starting weight was 278.

Sleeved on 6/18/15. Day of surgery I weighed 260. Lost 18lbs with the pre-op diet. (I did three weeks instead of two)

June 25: 244 Down 16 from surery date.

July 1st: 244

July 9th: 242

July 16th: 240

I want to throw the scale out of the window sometimes.

Is 2lbs a week normal...or should I be seeing better results. I am terrified I am doing something wrong. Not enough Water...not enough Protein...etc. But I am following my NUT guide to the T.

Throw the scale out the window. You are doing fine. A 6 - 10 lb a month weight loss is fairly typical for sleeves. There may be months that are higher & months that are lower, but that's about average.

How do you not get discouraged? I had surgery 6/9 and I've lost 18 pounds but seem to have stalled. I'm walking, eating correctly but the scale doesn't move. What else can I do? If my energy level would increase I'm sure that would help but it is frustrating.

What works for me is to stay off the scale and focus on what I am supposed to do: get in my Protein and Water, and exercise.

What Surfer Girl said, I had to stop stepping on the scale everyday. I was making myself depressed, it was terrible. Just tell yourself the stall WILL end, keep doing what you're doing and realize it's a marathon, not a Sprint :)

Adding to the chorus: STAY OFF THE scale.

During the first 6 mths most of us see the doctor often enough that we will be able to monitor our weight. Focus on the program. Make sure you are getting in 60+gms of Protein and 64+ounce of Water every single day. If you are hitting those benchmarks aim for higher. Not only will it help with the weight loss, it will also help with the energy level. If you need to measure something take your measurements (boobs, neck, waist & hips). Lastly learn to savor NSV (non-scale victories). Things like jeans getting loose, seatbealts not as tight, feet no longer swollen, etc.... Take joy in how your body is changing and you won't get discouraged.

I normally only weigh on Mondays but I knew I was close. I started my pre-op diet on 5-26 and was sleeved on 6-15 and hit 30 pounds lost today since 5-26. That is about 4.25 pounds per week average. I am pleased with that rate.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
