Post Op Joint Pain Question

Recommended Posts

Hi - I had a gastric sleeve four weeks ago and have been losing weight steadily but I'm noticing I'm having MORE joint pain than I ever did before... has anyone else run into this? Before I go running to my GP about this I was wondering if anyone had any insight.

I've been having LOTS of hip pain that I've never had before. Im 11 weeks post op 50 lbs down and the pain started about 3weeks ago. I haven't talked to my doc about it but it's been concerning me more and more. I'm a googler lol and have read forums that low back and hip pain is common in WLS patients.

Hope all will be okay for you!

I also have hip pain that wasn't there before. I think it's because I'm moving a lot more AND my body is totally out of balance now that my big belly is smaller. I still walk like I've got 65 pounds on me.

I started getting rolfed 6 weeks ago and it has helped realign my body to a more normal gate. I also am having physical therapy to strengthen muscles that were under used at 275 lbs.

I'm hoping this will take care of it.

Mine is in my hands and feet and shoulder... It may well be because I'm holding myself incorrectly for my changing body mass or something - but the hands threw me. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one though. I will try massage. that may well help and even if it doesn't I'll enjoy it. :)

Hi, I had the same problem with mainly hip pain and, for me, it turned out I had a B12 defeciency. Started taking a b12 and pain disappeared.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
