Hello,

I am curious what you feel with your stricture. I have one, I have been dilated once and I am going in again. I am worried and freaked out. My journey has been long. It all started out with a leak.

Curious what you physically feel with your stricture? Have you healed? How many dilations did you have? Have you been asked to convert to bypass? Does the prospect scare you?

I feel blindsided by this stricture. I thought this was a complication would world occur early on. I am 2.5 years out and this is now my issue. The sleeve experience has been less than desirable. I am so very regretful of the sleeve... I wish I could go back in time.. but cant.. So, I am working to make peace with this situation.

Anyhow, look forward to hearing what you experience with your stricture.

Best,

Sannah

@@Sannah09 this sounds awful.

Where did you have your surgery done?

It is terrible you are still having issues.

Emma patterson at OWLS did my surgery.

If i leak during dilation i will go into operation for some type of conversion. There is an increased risk of leak with dilation.

To date still has low Protein, Iron and a lot of issues.

I was told the stricture is caused by a technical issue of original surgery. My sleeve was made too small. Its now hour glass shaped, like two stomachs thanks to the stricture. Its painful.

Sannah

We were at the same spot - same time with somewhat similar struggles. Sorry you might have to deal with this again. I, too, am wondering if I have some new issues brought on by old complications. Please keep us posted regarding your outcomes. I am sure you are feeling disillusioned by this. Hang in there. remember how strong you were and still are!!!

NorcalRN,

Hi! How are you doing? Hanging in here?

Do you have a stricture?

I am sorry, a lot of my past is so blurry and unclear to me. The truth is i was feeling weak and still feel weak. People (you included) have been so kind and generous to me. Thank you SO much. My life has been so miserable since my sleeve. Wish I could go back in time.

hi Sannah

I just posted an update (somewhere)! I hope you are doing better. This sucks I know. Life on hold AGAIN. Miserable is a good way to describe how I feel, too. But we are strong and can handle this. See if you can find my recent post - literally just a minute ago I updated. keep posting- we all want you better!

Trish

When I eat food seems to get stuck up high in my chest. It hurts like crazy. I start to slime and I have to make myself vomit to get relief from the pain.

I vomit 2-6 times a day. It's really random. Sometimes I can get down a little bit of solids but most of the time I can't. I can ussually eat dry chips, smoothies and cheese, but not large quantities or I'll throw up.

I start to spit and sometimes immediately I throw up and sometimes about five minutes later.

I've thrown up blood once already from all the inflammation.

It's easier not to eat but I'm so hungry and crave solid food constantly.

Seriously guys...... What is this "slime" that you mentioned? I have never heard of it. Is this something that everyone experiences?

What procedure did you have and how far out are you?

It is the clear mucous-like spit or "slime" that likely remains n the stomach..it lines it to prevent acid irritation, assist in digestion, etc. It happened to me for bout 2 plus years and still occurs. vomiting often goes along with it. Sannah - I know what you mean in your post. eat like you should, but watch out cuz here it comes right back up!!!!

SLIME good for the stomach, but bad in excess....not fun at all!

I am 6 weeks out and have had 2 dilations for strictures. I was told thatI it can take up to four dilations to swallow without any problems. Mine is due to acid reflux and scar tissue. It is a horrible feeling of not being able to swallow or breath. The slime from throwing up is awful.

I am so sorry you are having to go through that! I am didn't think much about Stricture, and now I'm freaking terrified that this will happen to me. Ugh, just one more thing to worry about.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
