I am a shake newbie, but I got some Premier Protein and I've been happy with them. I initially had the chocolate flavor, then tried out the vanilla. I don't think of myself as liking plain vanilla things, but it's become my favorite, in part because I use it as a base for other stuff. I also got the strawberry flavor because I heard it was amazeballs, but I am not that impressed.

The best price for them is at Costco; I don't have a membership but a friend got them for me. $25 for an 18 pack. Safeway had a sale for a while, $20 for a 12 pack, but now it's back to being far too expensive.

I have the chocolate in the morning. I have not given up caffeine yet -- I may be months away from a surgery date -- so I make a mocha shake using Starbucks Via. I take a single Via packet and add an ounce of hot/boiling Water (maybe a shot worth?) You have to do this because the Via doesn't dissolve in cold Water. Then I open up my icy cold PP chocolate, take a big swig to make room, and add the Via shot. I seal it back up and shake it well. MOCHA! :-)

For the Vanilla, I add Mio drops to change the flavor sometimes -- orange Mio drops added gives me a creamsicle flavor. I have also blended the vanilla with fresh blueberries I put in the freezer (the whole container, just popped it right in and let them freeze!) and a little ice. It makes a great smoothie.

I admit to not having tried other brands because I've been happy with these. I do prefer them cold; I carry some with me when I go out in a little insulated lunch bag.

I like the Premier chocolate shakes. Haven't tried the other flavors. My favorite right now is the Gold Standard vanilla Protein powder from costco.

1 scoop Protein

1 tablespoon sugar free vanilla pudding

1 tablespoon sugar free vanilla Syrup

Little bit of ice and blend. You have to experiment with your blender to get the texture right. I have a vitamix and blend on variable 6 for about 1 minute. Turns out nice and creamy.

Cheers!

I'm an powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury fan....all flavors. You buy them online at Unjury.com. If you're not happy with the product, you can return it. The chicken Soup is a nice change from sweet shakes although you have to watch the Water temperature otherwise the whey will clump - it doesn't change the taste, but the texture is weird in your mouth. I do add a pinch of chicken bouillon just to ramp up the flavor a bit. You can prepare the shakes a day in advance if you prefer. I've been known to drink one 2 days after making it. I create a mocha shake with 4 oz. coffee (usually leftover), 8 oz. skim milk, 1/2 serving of vanilla Protein powder and 1/2 serving of chocolate splendor; mix well, chill or serve over ice. Another favoriteis mixing a serving of vanilla with 8 oz. SF orange (or SF orange pineapple) drink. Also, another option is to add a couple of pumps of Torani SF Black Cherry Syrup to a vanilla shake. Today I'm going to try a tablespoon or two of PB2 blended with a chocolate shake - have heard it's really good - kind of like a liquide Reese's cup.

A word of caution - I have heard, and was told by my NUT - that pre-surgery you want to be careful about buying too many shake products because sometimes WLS patients' taste preferences change after surgery. Fortunately, I was not one of those whose taste preferences changed for anything following surgery. The only difference is that I now prefer very highly flavored solids foods.

Ditto for Premier Protein. I had been drinking the chocolate and didn't think I would like the vanilla but I actually do. I actually add a little Salted Caramel sugar free Syrup (by Torani) and it is SO good. To make my own shakes, I use Precision Engineering whey Protein Isolate in chocolate and like it quite well. For unflavored, I use a new one that my NUT recommended called Doc Hale's Whey-licious (only available online I think). Best part is it can be mixed in as little as 3 oz of Fluid which really helps early on post-op when you can't get much in. I mix it with 3 oz of Propel Fitness Water berry flavored and it tastes fine to me. (I mean not something I crave for sure but doesn't taste that bad and quickly gets me 20g of protein with only 90 calories. I also use this when I am just running short on protein for the day as it is fast. At 4 weeks post-op, it still takes me at least an hour to drink one of the Premier Protein Shakes which is 11 oz.

Also, Syntrax Protein is pretty good. You can order a sample pack to try. You must call to order the variety pack - see link for phone number. It's a good deal. The Fuzzy Navel flavor is really good. Some flavors you'll like better than others.

You can also order a sample pack of Chike Protein powders. They're a combinate of protein isolate and protein concentrate.

I prefer the protein powders that are protein isolate because they have a lot fewer carbs, i.e. unjury and Syntrax.< /p>

Never thought of changing the flavors with Mio drops! Thanks for all the input. Looks like Premier Protein for the win - which is exactly what I've been drinking! Just making sure there wasn't a hidden gem somewhere out there...haha. ;) thank you all for the input!

I do like the Jay Robb whey isolate too. The premier Protein is yummy as well. Changing flavors with extracts also works, just watch out for alcohols.

I only liked Syntrax. I liked the chocolate truffle best. But I also like the caribbean cooler, Crystal Sky, Peanut Butter Cookie, Twisted cherry and strawberry.

I have the grape but haven't tried it yet. I did not like the Cookies and cream but then I don't like Oreos either.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
