Official August thread! Where are you guys?

It's so hard but exciting watching all the June people go in and seeing the July bunch start their pre-op diets and get ready for their big day, soooo I thought I would start a August thread for those of us who are gearing up for our turn!!

I have an August 13th date and start my pre-op diet in July 30th and time seems to be dragging by.. I have read all my books combed through this web site and been inspired!!

I have a few worries like my pre-op diet (3 Protein shakes a day and 64 ounces of Clear liquids only) what a bummer I am strangely excited to start that process but know it will be a challenge to be liquid only.. I have heard about the Swanson infused broths and planned to try those but I suppose our area hasn't caught up with the progressive world because our stores don't have them. So hopefully I can order from wal-mart website.. I have not even purchased any protein powders or Vitamins. I sure am excited though. I can't wait to "meet" more August RNYers.

Hope you're doing well now on this side of it!

Oops... I was trying to reply to a post. I'm new.

Being that I initially had the band, I think it's helped me to recognize what the full sensation is and when to stop. I've only just noticed it as I'm on soft foods. I think when your on full liquids it's difficult. Just feels like your stomach is full. The head hunger is a whole other ball game.

The first week out I was starving. Pizza Hut commercials would push me over the edge I tell ya! The head hunger and real hunger is slowly becoming more distinguishable. Baby steps I suppose! Liquids no problem. Just have to sip all. day. long.

Surgery yesterday. Bypass went well. Off of pain pump and fall restrictions now. Had 2 upper gi's due to question abt a possible leak. Those were NOT. Fun! Getting my walking and breathing in. Have a mild fever.. Anyone else have that?

I joined the losers bench this morning. I am having a little pain but it doesn't seem to be terrible, very little nausea. But I am only allowed ice chips. I cannot wait to drink something. That will be tomorrow when I go home. I have already been up and walking.

I am a little groggy due to the pain meds and anesthesia.

Tell me about it! They were a little backed up, when I got to radiology. Right before it was turn, my catheter really started bothering me. When they took me into the room and asked me to stand up, I told her that if I stand up, I'll pee. She said that's just what catheters feel like. So, I stood up and needless to say I peed. The lady was like "oh yea you are peeing." So, she had to call a nurse to come and put another folley in What fun. Then they thought there was a possible leak, on my, too. So, they sent me back out to the waiting area, then took me in for some kind of xray. Once I got back to my room, they said soon as they get results they'll take catheter out. Well, it took like 3 more hours to get the results - nothing like making you worry. About the fever... I got home yesterday afternoon and had a slight fever around 8:00pm. One thermometer said 100.1 and another one said 99.8. Then at the same exact time tonight, I started feeling feverish and I only used the thermometer I thought was the better one at it said 99.5. My nurse called this afternoon and said if it is 110.5 + to call immediately.

I had bypass yesterday and I've had a pretty low grade fever all day. It was 95 most of the day and recently it went up to 98.8. They don't seem to concerned...

I love to hear all the success stories. Best of luck ladies and gents to a swift recovery. You all made it and are already sparkling! So envious of all of you...great job!????????????????????????????

Congrats to everyone who had their bypass recently! Hope everyone is doing well!

I was discharged yesterday and spent my first night at home last night - boy was that nice. Great, full night of sleep!

Feeling great, no complications other than Potassium is a bit low so need to go in for additional lab-work today.

My hunger has pretty much all gone away, so I'm very happy about that. No nausea, getting down protein and various drinks just fine. I did put on about 8 pounds while in the hospital from all the fluids they were pumping inside me, but now am quickly taking it back off.

All-in-all, doing wonderfully! How about the rest of you?

I too just had surgery Wednesday. I had a few complications in the hospital (iv's, canceled order, etc) but all in all I'm feeling good. Trying my hardest to sip, sip, sip, but I'm so full (from the gas and all the fluids given in the hospital) I feel like I'm going to POP!

It's so nice to hear everyone is doing well! Good luck for the September group this week! Can't wait to read more success stories!

Slept 9 hours straight last night and even took a nap today! I now feel great. I'm able to walk a little more "upright" then I had been. I am day 4 post-op. Did well yesterday and today so-far getting my water and protein in. I am liking the syntax nectar fruit-juice-like protein.

  • 4 weeks later...

How are all the August surgery people doing?I have hit that rite-of-passage otherwise known as the three week stall. I am doing well, but still have that left incision area pain, sometimes even just sitting... Thought that would be gone by now.

I was 5 weeks post op yesterday. I start soft foods next week (thankfully, as pureed food is getting sooo boring). I have no pain whatsoever but I am still very tired.

Just over 5 weeks now. Feeling great and went back to work last week. Still working on getting all my protein and fluids in, but they gets a little easier every day

Hi everyone! Four weeks post op today. Have been at a stall for about a week and a half. Getting a little frustrated. I don't want to sound like I am complaining because I am not at all, but I have had NO problems getting liquids, protein or meals in. So much so that I am actually paranoid about wondering if they actually took enough of my stomach. I have been on soft foods for a week and have only gotten to the point where I felt full once and I think it was because I didn't chew well enough. Otherwise, I have had no problems and even got down a Chobani yogurt down (5.3 ounces) without even feeling full. I feel like I'm not doing something properly. I definitely don't have any hunger though so they must have done something in there, LOL. Any tips on how to break this stall? I've increased activity, fluids and protein. I'm still only getting about 600 calories in a day and the doctor wants me at 1000 but I haven't made it happen yet, but try every day.
