  1. Every doctor is different. It has been my experience that they pre-or diet is a.) to help you lose some weight before surgery and/or b.) to clear your stomach and gut of any food that may be left in there before surgery. It wouldn't hurt to ask your doctor why he/she hasn't suggested this. When is your surgery? Maybe you are still to far out before surgery they will discuss this with you as you near your surgery date. On another note, congrats on your upcoming surgery. Its completely life changing! Good luck and keep us all posted.
  2. Hey guys and gals, So, I'm about 4 months post op and I've started to lose a mass amount of hair! I have thin and baby fine hair as it is, but now, its just coming out in massive amounts. I feel like I have bald spots and its embarrassing! I know that after surgery, some experience hair loss, but what is a healthy amount of hair loss? How long does it last? And will it grow back any healthier? I have been taking my Vitamins, eating plenty of Protein, drink a crap load of Water, and I don't use hair products, and yet its still going. Does anyone have any suggestions? Anything I can do differently? Any suggestions or remedies would be greatly appreciated!

    Horrible Pain!

Hi Nancy1955, I had surgery on 8/26 and about 7 weeks after surgery, I had pain that was unbearable. (I have a high pain tolerance and was almost doubled over in pain). After being told it was just healing, a stomach bug, etc., I asked for a scope to be done. Come to find out, I had developed a kink in the intestine and an ulcer developed because of the kink. It was an easy fix. With the scope, it was therapeutic and diagnostic at the same time. The scope showed that there was in fact a kink when the CT SCAN showed nothing. The scope was a 10 min procedure and straightened out the kink. I feel great and no more pain. I have done a lot of research and a kink is very common. If you follow the diet and instructions of the doctor, you should be fine. As for the pain from the surgery itself. Just take it easy. Be sure to get up and walk as much as possible. It not only helps with digestion but also gets the blood moving and helps the body heal faster. Best of luck!

    Rant from a single woman!

So, here I am, 35 and fixing to undergo RNY surgery in August. I'm not, in my mind, an overly large woman (the doctors and their charts tend to disagree), but due to multiple medical ailments, I haven't been unable to lose weight, and in fact, keep gaining. I'm okay with having the surgery, but in the mean time, trying to find a good man is nearly impossible. I'm sure they are out there, but thus far, I have met guys for dinner and never heard back from them. A few have told me straight up that I'm to "big" for their likes. Each to his own, but I wouldn't want to be with someone like that anyway. Here is my rant/dilemma...if I'm having a hard time finding a guy now, and I have surgery, then all of a sudden guys want to date, that really shows how shallow they are. Me and my lack-of-a-filter mouth is likely to say something if this were the case and it might not go so well! I've heard the same in the past from friends who had lap band surgery, but I'm not sure how to politely ask them WTH?!?! Has anyone experienced this? Not being able to find a person to date then all of a sudden, you lose weight and they're knocking at your door? How do you handle this? I don't expect the guys to be lining up outside my door, by any means. A few people at work know I'm having the surgery (I'm open and honest about having the surgery) and I've even had a few guy tell me "You're going to be so skinny I'm going to want to date you!" WTH!!! Not interested....NEXT! Just putting this out there and seeing if any others think/feel the same or experienced this and have any input.
  6. I too just had surgery Wednesday. I had a few complications in the hospital (iv's, canceled order, etc) but all in all I'm feeling good. Trying my hardest to sip, sip, sip, but I'm so full (from the gas and all the fluids given in the hospital) I feel like I'm going to POP! It's so nice to hear everyone is doing well! Good luck for the September group this week! Can't wait to read more success stories!
  7. I had bypass yesterday and I've had a pretty low grade fever all day. It was 95 most of the day and recently it went up to 98.8. They don't seem to concerned...
  8. Surgery this morning. All went well and I just went for my first shuffle down the hall. In some pain, but overall I think I'm gonna make it! Shout out to all my battle buddies who had surgery today, hope everyone is doing well!
  9. I start my pre-op liquid diet on Sunday. I too am only allowed liquids. No protein, etc. I'm a bit nervous about the liquids only, and I'm sure I will have little to no energy, but that's going to be about the same after surgery. Good luck with everything! Please feel free to message me, and definitely keep us all posted on your progress!

    Finished Clearances!

Congrats on the date! I too just finished up all my pre-op clearance and approvals. Had my last dietician appointment today. I was told they would be submitting my paperwork and would let me know. I'm a bundle of nerves. Im so excited to get this done, but Im nervous about the "after". I guess all the nerves people on here were talking about in the beginning stages, are now catching up to me! YIKES!!! Anyway, best of luck! Keep us posted on your progress! And again, CONGRATULATIONS!!!
  18. I'm having surgery this month too and from Virginia Beach VA. Great! Good luck!! Keep me posted on your progress!!
  19. How are you holding up, doyouhear? The 26th will be here before we know it! Getting excited!!!
  20. Im a 26th-er too! I had my pre op/clearance today! Everything is looking good. Have to wait on the millions of vials of blood work to come back, but after that its smooth sailing....until after surgery! One thing that has me a bit concerned though. My PCP mentioned today that she has three patients that recently had surgery and have lost all their weight and now they are worried they are to skinny. Has anyone's doctor(s) expressed this concern? I understand we are inevitably going to lose a lot of weight, but what happens if we get to low on that ol' scale?
  21. I'm in the 26th too!! Being nervous s do scared is completely natural. But you have to remember that there is a reason you're a candidate for the surgery. Additionally, what's to say that you won't have more health complications without the surgery? Life is precious and none of us want bad things to happen, but we also have to remember that they are part of life. We "adapt and overcome". I'm sure throughout your life you've met some real obstacles and you are still here, a beautiful and strong person! I have a ton of ailments that, should there be a problem, could be very dangerous, but...the life after surgery is going to be more rewarding and happy that it makes up for those fears. Rest assured our doctors are prepared for anything and will be ready to help you and get you thru it. Plus, you've got all of us here to lean on for support! Here's to August 26th!
  22. Its completely natural. You're not chicken, your cautious. Completely different and totally understandable. If you suffer from acid reflux now, or have ever, I highly recommend the RNY. Two of five of my friend that had the GS are already in the process of trying to get a revision to GB. I personally, don't want to have to go thru all the dieting, surgery, recovery again ( I'm speculating from other posts I have read). One time is enough for me!
  23. I too struggled with this decision. I am a type 1 diabetic and have a few other ailments. After doing research, talking to a handful of friends that had the GS and talking to the surgeon, I finally decided on RNY. Ultimately, it is your decision, but the deal breaker for me was the acid reflux with the sleeve, the fact that RNY has been around much longer, and lastly, that you get the MOST benefit (most amount of weight loss per studies) from RNY. Either way, you will make a decision that best suits you, and all of us here will be here to support you! Good luck!
  24. I recently saw a post about mixing SF pudding with Fage Greek yogurt. The post said to take a tablespoon or so of SF pudding with a tablespoon of milk(lactaide) and mix and then quickly mix in the yogurt, however, it didn't state how much yogurt to use. Any ideas?
