I was sleeved on 6/22/15. The worst part was the anesthesia. I was so sick, but them giving me a diluated pump for pain, and not giving enough pheneragan, I just wanted to throw up and die. Then the swallowing test on Tuesday was horrible, an I mean plain disgusting. They gave me medicine cups and made me drink an oz. every 15 minutes. Well, I get home and I'm like the H with this, I'm going to sip from a bottle, and I did... And I'm fine. So I know I'm not getting to Protein I need with Water, broth, Jello & Popsicles. What do I do... And when do I start on the diluted shakes?

Yours truly,

Lost in sleeveland

Your best bet is to follow the program set out for you by your surgeon and nutritionist (NUT). Although most of us were given similar instructions, not all were the same.

My thought is you should already be drinking Protein shakes which will also count toward your Fluid intake.

Good luck on your journey!! It is definitely a learning process along the way.

They told me Clear Liquids, Vitamins, plavix, actagall, and 64oz of Water. 1 oz every 15 minutes...I sure don't want a leakage... I'd die if I had to do the anesthesia again.

And then on Saturday, dilute A shake in the am and pm. And still get foods and h2o in... I'm used to guzzling that water down. However. I have lost 10lbs since Monday. He said he took a gallon sized jug of my stomach out... It's so hard to get used to. I've never been a big eater... But now I'm force feeding/ drinking. And prior to this, I was insulin resistant...

They had to keep checking my blood sugar, because it kept dropping, which automatically made it worth it!

But again, going without Protein for a week, is that good for me?

If your program doesn't allow Protein shakes you should still be able to do clear Protein. Isopure has a clear protein (in bottles) that I believe is 40 grams per bottle. I was given ProtiDiet liquid Protein concentrate in the hospital and it some from my surgeon's office to bring home that comes in different fruity varieties. Initially, I ate it over some crushed ice. Now, a month out I dilute them with Water.

Bone broth also has some protein.

You should definitely be trying to reach your protein goal every day. It will help with healing as well as weight loss.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
