So happy and desperate!

I am so happy! I am officially a week out of surgery now and never could have imagined that I would be here today, sleeved and recovering. I am still sore but feeling pretty good. However, I am having a hard time getting all my Protein in because I am SO SICK of the Protein shakes. I am having no pain drinking and can drink just fine, so I was thinking I could try some cottage cheese or yogurt or something. I see the doctor Monday, but dont think I will last that long on Protein Shakes, I gag just thinking of them. I called my nurse and she said that I should be able to move to the third stage soon because I am healing so fast. What do you guys think? Do you think I can eat a little protein so I at least get some or wait until Monday and not get enough protein from the shakes? Help!!!!

I think you should wait until Monday to see if your doctor gives you the go ahead. Can you have broth or Soups or something to change it up? Is that on your liquid diet?

I'm not going to tell anyone to go against their surgeons orders. So if you're looking for justification, you aren't getting it from me. Sorry. A lot of us did liquids for 2, 3, 4 weeks or more. I think you need to just suck it up for a few more days.

I understand following the plan, but sometimes the plan doesn't follow you. I will call my surgeon tomorrow and ask him what he thinks. Meanwhile I'm having my Protein Shakes and a little yogurt. I'm happy now :)

Congrats on your surgery and so glad your having a good recovery!! All this work abd effort will pay off!

I agree to stick to the plan. However, don't be afraid to ask your surgeon questions if something doesn't seem to work for you. Everyone varies, there is no method that works for every person. Just keep yourself willing to trust the process! I'm just shy of 6mo post op and within 5lbs of goal. I followed the rules and have made adjustments with my Drs approval. This surgery has changed my whole life!

My but and nurse told me that Fluid is the main goal for the first 2 weeks. Its ok not to meet your Protein goal in that time. I would not jump the diet though. Your tummy is still healing and super swolen. I was on liquids for 2 weeks. I was aloud to have Soups thinned out. I bought Unjury protein chicken Soup and ProtiDiet soups. I did 2 shakes a day and soup.

My surgeon doesn't let you leave the hospital until you have eaten some yogurt and apple puree etc. It's yet another area which is inconsistent across surgeons. I don't think anything bad will happen physically but you don't want to get in the habit of going off your plan. Up to you I think.

I bought some really good creamed Soups like cream of Tomato, potato leek, and broccoli. They had no chunks and were velvety. I would add a scoop (which is about 1 Tablespoon) of GENEPRO Protein (it is unflavored and 1 little scoop has 30 grams of protein) It made things much better. I don't like sweet drinks so I always hated the Protein Shakes.< /p>

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
