FUGG THIS (WEIGHT GAIN)

Recommended Posts

Anyone gain weight?

Surgery Date 5/6/15 SW 275, height 5"11; LowestW 249; CW 251.

I do some form of working out 6 days a week. Increased my ability to jog (and have gotten 8-10k steps many times). No fried foods, no soda, no juice, no pork, very low carbs. One cheat day I ate banana pudding while still remaining under 1000kcal that day. Typically eat 500kcal a day. WTH did I gain weight? I'd expect at the least 35lbs down thus far. Feeling like I did all of this for nothing.

No, you didn't do this for nothing. And you know it.

You were sleeved less than 2 months ago. You've lost 26 pounds so far. You're doing great. You're doing everything great (exercising; eating lots of Protein, I assume; drinking lots of Water, I assume).

Month 1 post-op, I lost 10.4 pounds. Month 2 post-op, I lost 11.8 pounds.

I reached goal at 8.3 months post-op. I'm now 6 pounds under goal. And I'm now eating 1600 - 1700 calories a day. I'm also still losing weight, as I try to find my maintenance sweet spot. And yes, I'm trying to eat even more to stop losing -- it's terrible, terrible situation! ;)

This ain't a race. You don't get any extra points for going faster than someone else. Gaining two pounds (temporarily) is irrelevant to anything. I gained 1, 2, 3 pounds lots of times as I went down. If it really bothers you to see such minor fluctuations, stop weighing daily. Weigh once a week or once a month.

Breathe!

I am about 2 months post op and I have fluxed between 240-237 for about 2 weeks. I BARELY made it to 236 a few days ago... I can feel your frustration, I said the exact same thing you said. It happens and according to all the vets here on this page, its mostly Water weight. I get more calories than you but I do try to get tons more Protein so my cals are about 800-1000. I finally just threw my hands up and decided to TRUST THE PROCESS. I weigh once a week now, and I make sure to try to stay within my limits of food. Hang in there friend. ;-)

@@VSGAnn2014 thanks so much for your reply. Yes, I eat lots of Protein and I get my 64oz of Water in M-F (weekends are so hard for some reason). I do weigh my self daily but only account for Wednesdays. I have to start weighing monthly, it's killing me. Thanks again!!!

@@ladivaluz806 "trust the process" I really like that. Happy to know I'm not alone in this. Thanks for your response and good luck to you and your journey.

it's possible you gained some muscle mass...weight doesnt always equal fat. and hell if it is fat, hey, it happens. your new tool still works, besides, your body is also trying to figure out wth happened to it. "trusting the process" such an important phrase. trust the process, more importantly, trust yourself. youre on the right track. hell i need to get back to working out myself. thanks for the motivation on that front!

Can I just save your response on my computer and copy and paste in the next "OH NO WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?!" thread??

No, seriously, original poster, Ann is spot on. I'm 10 months out, and when I see a pound or two fluctuation now, I'm like "meh". It just doesn't phase me anymore, I'm so used to it. As long as I know I've been doing what I'm supposed to be doing, it's just normal body adjustments that we all go through. You may not like them, but you'll get used to them too ;)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
