Reactive hypoglycemia

Recommended Posts

About three months after surgery, I started experiencing episodes of low blood sugar, usually after eating something bad for me. I was never diabetic and I've learned to deal with this and have learned what triggers the episodes. I'm 17 months out from surgery, down 110 lbs (20lbs more than goal weight), and have had no other complications. Anyone else with this same issue? Just looking for someone to commiserate with!

Hi Eroper6

I haven't had issues with low blood sugar but, I have had several issues of "brown outs" according to my doctor it was from dehydration. I am 16 months out and down 115 lbs. I still have 10 more pounds to go to hit goal weight.

I will see my dr the 23rd, but I may call this week. After I eat no matter what it is I get very tired. It's this horrible feeling like I need to go to sleep. I can't function. It passes after 30 minutes or so. The best feeling I can describe is on the wizard of is when Dorothy sees the emerald city and they walk through the flowers and they are running, but it puts them to sleep. That is exactly how I feel. I feel great and then zap!!

. Your post sounds like what I go through too. I'm 17 months out too, I've lost 102# total and have maintained that for 9 months. (20 below goal too????) I've been trying to add more things to my diet besides primarily Protein but have noticed that I'm having major, major crashes if I have anything with sugar, or a few extra carbs. I get really shaky and feel like I'm going to pass out. The biggest problem then is I start to panic and stuff crap in my mouth to get rid of the feeling. I'm going to get back to the basics and do what was working best for me. Protein, then veggies and some fresh fruit. Cutting out sugar and carbs. I've come this far and I'm not going to screw up over bad choices.

I cannot tolerate foods that are high in carbs and I have to eat frequent small meals to combat the reactive hypoglycemia. It helps keep me in check but it's not a good feeling if I eat something high in carbs. I get really shaky and tired. If I try to counter the reactive hypoglycemia by eating more carbs it makes things worse. I've learned to plan my meals ahead if possible.

I have this and I am pre surgery...stay away from carbs....sugar....you need more protein. It is a thing with hypoglycemia...drink Isopure Liquid Protein drinks. They come in flavors and will keep you hydrated and not prone to dizziness and weakness.

I also drink coconut Water.< /p>

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
