Nervous about follow-up Gallbladder surgery

Recommended Posts

This will be the third laparoscopic surgery. 2.5 years ago for my sleeve , 5 months for RNY and now this. I am not sure if my abdomen can handle another go around.

Also, they are not 100% sure it's my gallbladder. A couple of the test (x-ray, cat scan and basic labs). However, when they did the more extensive test (more comprehensive laps and hida scan) they came back inconclusive. I was at the boarder line for several ranges that put me in the risk category.

I still have immediate pain after eating, but not 100% of the time, like before. I do continue to have pain in other place in my GI tract, while I am sedated, they are going to do and EGD to look at things from the inside.

Is exploratory surgery the right thing to do?

Thanks,

Patrick

That is a tough question to answer. Have you gotten a second opinion?

I had my gallbladder out many years before my bypass. But it was clear that I had so many gallstones at the time they had to do an open procedure.

I would consider a second opinion

I had RNY July 23 2014. Everything was going well and then I was having a lot of pain in my abdomen. Long story short he couldn't find anything so he wanted to do Exploratory And look so I did, it was twisted bowels and a lot of scar tissue. He fixed me up and I felt much better. It was Due to losing weight so fast. So everything went well and then this month I had a gallbladder attack, very painful had to go back in and have it removed. So I have had 3 yes 3 laparoscopic surgeries in a year. I feel great. I am in pretty good shape I think but it has not been a problem for me. I just make sure to take my Vitamins and exercise to keep strong. I wish you lots of luck.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
