Unbearable pain -- advice?

Recommended Posts

Ok.. Maybe it's a little bearable ???? I had my surgery June 15th 2015... So I am now 3 days out and my stomach is SO soar. Thankfully, gas is coming out, from my front and back, but not as frequently as I'd like. My lower back is also in a lot of pain as well.

I have only been drinking Water, broth, and sugar free jellos. I'm going to buy some Protein Shakes today. Does anyone know when my stomach // gas pains will go away? I can't imagine feeling this way for the whole month. It's just terrible and really hard to walk :/ I can't stand up fully straight.

Are you using Gas-X and are you walking? Both seem to help. Did you have a drain? The good news is, "this too shall pass"! Welcome to the loser's bench!

What kind of painkillers are you taking? You may need stronger painkillers. If I were in your situation I would be discussing it with my medical team.

I have Gas-X but while I was in recovery, all of the nurses told me not to use it, so I haven't yet. I really want to though. And yes, I have been walking.

As for pain meds, I'm on oxycodone. I've only taken one pill since I've been home. It helped me right away but I don't want to rely too much on the pills.

Edit: Nope, no drain!

Thank you both for the feedback btw????

Well, I don't want to sound like a drug pusher, and you may have serious, medical reasons for wanting to avoid painkillers. But on the other hand, pain isn't noble. Suffering isn't going to help you recover faster, in fact it will slow your recovery down because of all the stress it puts on your body. My team made it pretty clear to me and the other patients at our pre-surgery boot camp that if we couldn't take pain meds (recovering addicts, medical allergies, etc.) that they would work with us to find a different solution -- but if not, we should take the pain meds we were prescribed until we weren't in pain anymore.

You're right. I just went to the pharmacist and picked up a gas pill. Just took it now. Thank you, you're right.. I do need to take care of myself no matter what. Already feeling less pain in my stomach.

I had surgery on the 15th, too.

Try using a heating pad for the gas pain. I used mine in the hospital and it really helped, just keep it on low or medium so you don't accidentally burn yourself!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
