June 29th Bypass Surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! This is the first time for me posting in this forum. My surgery is set for June 29th. Anyone on or around that date that wants to follow each other's progress? I start the 2 week pre op diet tomorrow...kinda had a food funeral this weekend. :)

Awesome! I'm going to make my first shake now. Using Bariatric Advantage vanilla with PB2. I hope it tastes good be I'm not a milk person. Idk what time I have to be there yet. They call the week before to let me know that. I hope it's early in the morning so I get it over with. I'm so nervous about the initial recovery right after surgery.

Nice! My diet consists of the shake in the morning, a Protein Bar for lunch and unlimited salad with fat free dressing and steamed vegetables. The shake wasn't so bad today! But I can tell it's going to get old quick. Lol. I'm going to have to change it up with some berries :)

I can have Protein Shakes, broth, sugar free Jello, and sugar free popsicles, along with Water. Whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Lol. I have the vanilla Bariatric Advantage and have been using it for a while with the PB2, it's not bad but it helps. The other day I threw a few strawberries in the blender with the powder and it tasted like a strawberry milkshake.

Arriana, how are you doing on your first official prep day? I'm so hungry right now but I'm not giving in. I had two big bowls of salad before and that's enough!! Cheetos and Soda (which I'm craving) got me in this position! Now I'm standing my ground and fighting back. Plus, I want to see how much I'll lose in the next 2 weeks :)

I've been on a variation of my pre-op diet for awhile now, so it isn't as big of a shock to my system. So I'm doing decent. I am craving some chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream like something fierce though, haha. t minus 14 days

Since we are all surgery buddies on this post, I'll tell both all a little about me. My name is Shauna, I am 32 years old and the mom of 2 little girls (6 & 21 months). I am a stay at home mom and I live in CT with my husband, kids, 2 dogs and a cat. I've been overweight since I was 5 with ups and downs in between. The lowest weight I can ever remember being is 147...and that was after I lost 65 pounds by being married to the gym. Well..actually getting married and 2 kids later, free time and metabolism are not the same! I am at the heaviest I've ever been (besides pregnancy) of 251 pounds. Yes, I know, many people have a lot more to lose, but I've been living in this body that I do not belong to. My hips and back hurt, I get winded very easily, and I am very uncomfortable not only mentally but physically. My husband had gastric bypass a year and a half ago and has had a very successful experience. I swore to myself I would never get gastric bypass after seeing that he went through (he's a big baby when it comes to pain). BUT, here I am a year and a half after him at the mercy of the dreaded scale. It's time for a change, I have not given up, I have just hit rock bottom and realize I need help with this. It's time to actually live and let my kids live, without mommy holding them back. I am so excited for my future weight loss experience, but most of all, I'm looking forward to leading a healthier life and setting an example for my girls :). THE END

My date is the 30th. I am on my liquid diet. I need to lose 3.4 lbs in order for my surgery to be performed. My insurance required a 20 lb. loss. I have struggled with it. I will do it. I have 12 days.

Day 3 done and onto day 4... it is getting tough for me... but I just am trying to keep my eyes on the prize. Just think this diet is going to be what makes this surgery so much safer and have an easier recovery.

On another note, my insurance company decided they wanted to give me some troubles last minute, but I got the call today that everything is finally a green light to go. Only thing that ended up changing was my check in time at the hospital though since the hospital had to temporarily take me off of the schedule. So instead of checking in at 7am and being the first case of the day, I will check in at 830am and be the second case of the day. Irritating a little bit, but something that I can deal with.

I will tell you guys a little bit about myself as well, since we get to go through this journey together. I'm 29 years old, and I honestly don't remember a time when I wasn't a big girl. Even when I was at my most athletic time in my life, when I was constantly playing soccer and softball, I was still overweight. After high school, when I wasn't as active anymore my weight just climbed. Now at this point, I've tried pretty much every diet in the books, working out at the point that I could, and it just wasn't coming off. My highest weight was right about 355 last year. At my last doctors appoint for my pre-op appointment, I weight in at about 319.8, so I finally had a little bit of success. Now, I get this extra tool to help me in the weight loss to become a healthier person. Some of the reasons that I want to do this so bad, obviously be healthier. I am currently a nursing student and when I get done, I really don't want to be the nurse that you look at and think, "really? you're telling me to eat healthy and exercise?". Another reason is the more weight that I gained, my periods went away. My primary doctor plus my surgeon told me that if i want any chance at possibly having kids, I have to lose the weight. So here I am, trying to get healthier for myself, for my future, and to beable to run around with my nieces and nephews, and to be able to do the things that I used to and love to do. You have no idea how bad I want to get on a roller coaster again, haha.

11 days until the first day of the rest of our lives.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
