3-4 days postop and exhausted

Recommended Posts

I was banded on June 21st and I feel like a zombie. I don't like the Protein Powder I got, so I'm going to try to find another one I like. I hate the gritty texture of it or the Vitamin taste. I feel like my head is in a fog, which I'm sure is from the lack of food. It's going to be a long two weeks of full liquids for sure. Plus my port site hurts and so does my back. In fact, I can't hardly sleep at night because my back hurts. Does anyone have any suggestions for this stage? Does this last a long time? :think

I would say the first 5 days were the worst for me. My port site was sore for a couple of weeks, and I still cannot sleep on my left side for very long. I also had back pain - I used a foam wedge pillow placed under my knees to relieve the pressure in my lower back, while sleeping on my back. You can also use a couple of pillows under your knees. Everyone is different - keep your chin up, it does get better every day.

I liked to make fruit smoothies with the Protein powder - you can't taste the powder at all that way.

Take care

Hi there - a few things that helped me a lot -

heating PAD - helps with the gas and the pain

Don't move around too much other than the walking to help alleviate gas

Pain MED/Tylenol - whichever you have that you are using - it is harder to control pain if you let it go on too long.

I use Champion whey chocolate Protein powder and like it quite a bit. I now mix it half and half with Water and sugar free soy milk! Tastes just like a chocolate shake..

I hope that helsp - it does get better!!!!! You are probably still very swolen from surgery as well... GOOD LUCK

The only good thing dacer is that you will start feeling a bit better every day. The lack of energy is from not eating many calories. I had a hard time with the Protein drinks those first couple of weeks too. Especially the first week I didn't want to eat a thing. One of my favorite drinks during that time was a chocolate flavor sugar free carnation instant Breakfast made with skim milk and blended with one scoop of low fat frozen yogurt. It was yummy, soothing to my stomach, and helped me get some Protein in.

Just hang in there, it does get better. You'll be feeling 90% by the time your two weeks of full liquids is up. :)

I buy these Protein Bullets (42gr Protein each; 2 = 84gr and 6.2 oz) and mix 2 in 16oz bottle add Water to top -- they count as clear liquid, don't taste bad when dilluted either. Each day your goal is to get this 16oz bottle in (you have meet your protein goal)-- then you can have anything else you desire that you are allowed.

************************************

go to: your local Vitamin shoppe or http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/search/...intsource=main or call them at 1-800-223-1216.

$29.99 for 12 of the 42 gram bullets -- I use 2 a day. I put the 2 of them in a 16oz water bottle - add Water to the top and drink a third at B-L-D.

I have a coupon -- that the website didn't recognize but I called them and they did honor it -- "Save $10 on any purchase of $50 or more" promo code VSC-3123 -- received it from my doctor's office - it also is a "Supplement and Grocery list for Gastric Bypass Patients." (Feel free to use it as well!)

*************************************

Let me know how this goes!

I have done this coming home from surgery on the 4-9 for 2 weeks - and don't feel tired or any other side effects --I know do only 1 in 1/2 bottle for Breakfast each morning. I drink this then concentrate on getting additional 64oz plus of crystal light -- and such.

I am so new to this. I am to banded in August. Too nervous at this point. Am real nervous about the preop diet.Mmmmm, cottage cheese and yogurt, OMG I am going to die! Anyway, I am from Toronto. Actually, I went to the Toronto clinic June 20th, and met a really neat lady from Whitby. I was from Pickering. I have the short dark hair. We

really got along and found you very inspirational. But dont have your name or email. You were in the waiting room resting after your fill. When I came out from the office, you were gone. Would you be interested in emailing? My name is Rose. Are you around?

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
