just wondering, average weight loss in a yr.

Recommended Posts

I've been banded a year now and lost 82 lbs. Is this average below average or on target. I was really trying to loss 100, but I really feel like I failed. I know its a lot of weight, but when I see others posts, it seams like I'm behind. Please let me know how much you have lost in a year.

I don't know that there is an average. We are supposed to lose 1-2 lbs per week, so following that guideline I'd say you are right on target!

Congrats on your loss, it's wonderful!

Everyone is so different. We all have different activity levels, and so, we will all lose different amounts.

It's just too hard to compare yourself to other people.

Good Luck.

Sam.

I lost about that in a year, it was 100% of my "excess" weight, now however I'd like to get to the lower end of my healthy weight range and I'm finding that VERY hard to do, seven months work has resulted in about 5lb loss. But I could try a bit harder, lol.

I met someone who had only lost 30 lbs in one year with her band... I would think 82 lbs. is darn awesome! Is there anyway on this earth that you could have lost that weight without the band - and have the possibility of keeping it off? Maybe - but doubtful~ I say REJOICE over these 82 lbs and be proud - you've earned it!

I was banded on June 6th of this year. So far I have only lost 20 pounds and I am still feeling hungry. I haven't had my first fill yet. Does it really feel different once you have had your first fill. I have 100 pounds to lose, but I feel like I am at a standstill. Help!

Dear thinsoon...I was banded on June 4th of this year and have only lost 9 pounds...I think you should be very proud of your loss!

I'm coming up on my year in a couple of months. I've only lost about 65 pounds so far. I didn't have my first fill till May though, so meh.

The band seems to be working great for you. Kind of wierd to see that you seem to feel cheated or have failed. If you can do that again for one more year, that's 160 lbs.

I'm sure everyone that has known you since before the band will call you a failure for losing only 160 lbs in 2 years.

OK then. Enough sarcasm for tonight. Carry on!

I agree that 82 lbs is right on target. Great job!!! If I lost that much at one year I'd load up my post with goofy smile faces. I'm stuck at 45lbs for a couple of months now and am ready to see a loss again. I tell myself when i'm feeling like a failure that i've lost 45 more lbs than i would have without my band. (or worse lost it and then gained it back!)

aren't the stats that 50% of people who get the band will lose half of their excess body weight in the first year? There is a bell curve around that so some people do extraordinarily well and others are in the 30lb club.

Your weight loss is GREAT! Think of how much better physically you feel, look at old photos and don't think that the weight loss has to stop. it DOESN'T! If you are unhappy with the loss, look at your diet and activities and see what you could change to maybe boost it a bit. You are doing great so reward yourself for doing so well by focusing on what you've accomplished and what you still CAN do! :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
