3 days post op and it's the worst day yet!

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved 6/5/15. The first two days were virtually pain free and now today, day three, every sip I take feels a cramp in my chest. I have diarrhea and I'm worried in not going to be able to stay hydrated. Has anyone else had this pain with sipping?

I had that pain every time I ate or drank anything, for about 2 weeks. The pain medications you received at the hospital are probably wearing off. Did they send you home with any medications?

They did, and honestly was trying to avoid them, but my husband just made me take a dose. I'm going to try to stay on top of the pain meds from here on out

Try Gas X strips. Really helps get the Water down.

I would definitely keep up with your pain meds for a few days. The GasX might also help - it did for me. One other thing to try is different temperatures. I love cold Water, but for a while after surgery I just couldn't get it down. Drinking lukewarm fluids worked a lot better for me. Good Luck!

Thank u! I'm currently experimenting with different temps. I think the cold is what's aggravating my pouch. How many and how often did u take the gas x strips?

Funny, I didn't need Gas-X strip until week 8 post op. I thought that was weird but perhaps was because I was adding vegetables and fruit. Everything gets better so be strong in your commitment to work the plan. The pain will subside and one day you will notice that your new stomach has lost its swelling and you will find it easier to meet the daily regimen. I found walking helped a lot to relieve the gas pains

I thought I was dying the first week after, I felt like no one told me how painfull it was, I thought something was wrong and it was the end for me.... This passes!

Use gas-x strips for sure, but honestly it just takes time, a couple weeks out i started feeling good as new and back to normal, stick to the diet plan they give you and dont try to jump out too soon on foods, soon you will be back to normal and the rusults will make the first few days of pain well worth it.

As for drinking, just do the best you can, I would mark my Water bottel with a marker and make goals for myself on how much i wanted to drink that hour, Do what you can, it will get much easier to drink later on.

Thanks everyone for all of the advice. I'm post op day 6 and things are looking up. It's still a challenge to get all of the Water down every day, but the pain is almost gone. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I can't wait to chew some food at this point. It's really funny, I read post after post before hand and still was unprepared for reality of what was to come. I've had my meltdown already and the "what the heck did I do" moment. I guess I just had to live it to believe it.

Great advice! Also, walk, walk and walk. Even if you just walk around your house. Walking, especially stairs, really helps with the gas.

I had diarrhea after my first Protein shake, but just that morning. If it persists, you should definitely call your surgeon.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
