I want to burp so bad but I can't. Help Me!

Recommended Posts

This is my first day home since being banded and I just got up from yet another nap. I want to burp so bad to avoid the gas building up, do you have any advice. I am walking around the house because it's to hot for me to go outside right now and I am trying to get my lunch shake in because I was just to full off of the 2 ounces of juice that I drunk over an hour ago.

The gas from surgery isn't in your digestive tract, so you won't be able to burp it out. Your body has to absorb it, and it will take a few days. Keep walking, I was banded in early Feb, and it was snowy outside, so I just paced around my house as much as possible.

Hang in there, and we'll help you through this.

Here's to a speedy recovery, and WELCOME to bandland!

Keep on sip sip sipping away!

Hi,

I was banded 10 days ago, I had the exact same problem you have. What happened with me was on about the 5th day I managed a burp, of course announcing it to the whole family at this stage, as EVERYONE knew I COULDN"T BURP. What has happened to me over the last few days is as i've got stronger an my body has healded I've began to burp! I know it's uncomfy but don't worry I think you'll start to burp again. I got the sensation that the burp went back down in a swallow full of gas at first. Hope this helps.

I know exactly how you feel. I had surgery on June 13th and I still can't burp. I have no suggestions, but wanted to let you know your not alone! I still get full off liquids, then I can't eat. My doctor told me not to worry about it. I am still really bloated from surgery.

I was just banded 6/25/07, and have the same feeling, but it is starting to come and go, rather than be constant. I'm trying to be active and adhere to all the instructions. My biggest problem is I'm soooo bloated. I had trouble putting on a pair of pants yesterday (i've been living in my jammies since I got home). When does this swelling go down???

I find I can usually burp once I stand up and get moving, but sitting down I can feel it coming only have it make a "u-turn"...does not feel good at all! I've been chewing Rolaids with antigas but I'm going to switch to the Gas X chewables. Does anyone else find they are burping a lot due to all the liquids (even with small sips of Water sometimes!)? Maybe it's just me. I also have a thrombosis on my left wrist that is taking its sweet time to go away. Just time to suck it up and wait it out until these things go away, right? ;)

Banded June 27th, Dr. Jose Erbella and Dr. Gary Bunch, Manatee Memorial Hospital, Bradenton, FL - VG band.

Has anyone tried the Gas-X dissolvable strips? I haven't been banded yet, but bought them because I couldn't find liquid Gas-X.

The gas that cause pain in your neck or shoulders is the left over Carbon Dioxide from surgery that they were unable to suck out. It is not inside your mouth, throat, tummy, intestines. It is in the same place your intestines are but on the outside of them. You cannot burp them or fart them out! Gas X cannot reach them. Warmth, walk stand move. Take some liquid motrin. No pills. Your surgeon should have prepedd you for this.

Also try to NOT swallow air when you eat or drink! Go slowly it takes a bit of effort to get this down but its not that tough. k?

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
