Severe Abdominal pain with bloating/constipation, fatigue, joint pain

Recommended Posts

I know this post is older but I was reading everyone's stories and desperately need help. I am 38 year old female and 12 years post RNY and removal of gallbladder. I became lactose intolerant immediately after surgery but have had severe abdominal pains for years after drinking wine, alcohol, etc. I thought it was an ulcer but just had upper/lower scope done a few weeks ago; removed a couple polyps from colon but no big deal and no ulcer seen. I have been having bad headaches for years with chronic Constipation, bloating, gas, vomiting and Dr after Dr to find no answers... A couple days ago I became the most ill of all!!! I started having the most severe stomach pain imaginable with extreme bloating, all of my joints hurt, face is swollen, I feel poisoned and feel like something just isn't right in the intestines... Me and my husband decided maybe it was gluten intolerance so we threw out everything that contained gluten and de-contaminated all dishes, etc. I have had low Iron always but with the constipation already being so bad it makes it really hard to want to take iron supplement.... I have been sitting here all day, in tears at times from the pain, and just don't know what to do. Trying to get into Gastro Dr here is a month wait.

Please help....

I don't have any advice, but I just wanted to say I'm sorry you're having such a hard time. Hopefully someone will be able to speak to your problem.

I did go to ER yesterday because the pain got unbearable. They did CT of abdomen, xray, lab work etc... And they didn't find anything wrong... It's so discouraging. The only thing they said was the pancreas enzymes was a but elevated but nothing to worry about at this point. They sent me home and I wake up this morning with same pain and with flu like symptoms. It's really discouraging to see a Dr that can't help

I am really sorry to hear that you are going through all of this but I am post op 6 months out now and I can tell you this much do not go to the ER that didn't do your surgery. I have been where you are and I was having a lot of pain thought that I had a kidney stone. I went to the ER and they did a CAT scan and told me that I had Colitis and needed to go to see a Gastroenterology Doc, so I did. She then did and upper and lower GI and did biopsy and told me that I had a huge Ulcer and then told me that my Gastric bypass may have to healed correctly and put me on Karafate 4x a day. She told me that it could rupture and it would by very bad maybe even fatal. I was very worried and asked her what I should do if I felt this pain again, She told me that I would need to go only to the ER that my surgery was done so that my Surgeon would by able to help me at that time. I was very afraid so I called my Surgeons office and let them know what was going on and they got me in the next day. My Surgeon Dr. Allison was very upset that Dr. Koshy had done the upper GI and not only had she did it but that she took a biopsy that could have ruptured my Huge Ulcer. My Surgeon said that after they do a bypass and you have any issues concerning your stomach or abdomin that I should only call him to be seen because they are the ones that should be taking care of any issues after your surger. Please call the Surgeons office that performed your surgery and let them know what is going on. I am sure after you tell them your symptoms that they will get you in right away.

How is the original poster doing?? Did you find out the reason behind your pain? I really hope you are doing better. It sounds like Petersen's hernia but I'm no doctor but a friend of mine had same symptoms few years after RNY and the diagnosis was Petersen's hernia.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
