Good for you!!!! I'm still working on all the pre-op stuff. My app. hasn't even gone to the insurance company yet! I know it seems hard but think of all the reasons why you wanted the surgery and what you will get back!

My surgery date is the 27th. I had to fight 6 months with my insurance company to get approval, but I am sooooo ready. :clap2: Although there is some nervousness, and I hope my liquid diet has done the job it was supposed to in shrinking my liver, I just want to get it done and be past the surgery part of this. This site has been invaluable and encouraging, so hang in there and keep reading!! :biggrin1:

Hi!

I'm being banded on the27th and know how you feel! I'm now terrified and would probably back out if my mother didn't buy a plane ticket to come up and stay with me-then she would kill me. I had to stop reading the complications board because it was just totally freaking me out.

HugsXXXX

You will be OK, and just focus on all the good things that will happen in your life afterwards and how much better your health will be. That's what I'm doing.

Your almost there!!

good luck with your ops,,,, i am 6 week post op..

apart from being fed up that despite my first fill i have no restrictions yet - my body is happy. I joined the site yesterday. I am learning that i am no longer alone in the world of lap banding.. hooray !!!!!!!!!! and it may take several fills for restriction to happen... so i have to be patient.

now the op.. on the morning i was nervous and excited.. but it went so well.. i was back at work after a week.. i didn't drive for 10 days, and my scars have healed so well... bit of rubbing under my bra on the top scar which took a bit longer to heal.. but honestly i have felt so healthy. also a bit of a numb feeling but that has all but gone too.

i get a little discomfort on my right side if i squeeze my body to pick something off the floor or do up my shoe. i guess its the port ? but its minor !!!!!

i hope it goes well for you all..

Hi Edie,

I haven't seen you online in a while. You look wonderful. I know you are so excited. I cant' wait until the day I can feel and look great.

I will be attending a seminar on June 26th. This surgeon has only been doing bariatic surgery since 2004. I am not saying he is not good because I really don't know. I am hoping to make my mind up at the seminar. He is a M.D.

The doctor I think I want to do my sugery is a M.D.,F.A.C.S. He performed the lapband surgery on a girl I know. She is doing great.

She said she liked that they encourage you to go to the support meeting prior to surgery. She said his staff is so supportive.

The M.D. doctor might do the same thing, I don't know anyone that has used him or how many surgeries he has performed. I will be traveling an hour from where I live to have this surgery so there is no one to ask.

Do you think I am over re-acting to this M.D. surgeon vs the M.D.;F.A.C.S. surgeon.

Tell me what you think.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
