Exercise enlightenment/guidance needed

Recommended Posts

I'm 18 days post op, and at a loss for motivation to get exercising. I know, i need to. I have only managed to walk 2-3 miles several days a week. I'm back at work full time and find myself so lazy when I get home.... What was anyone else doing for exercise at this stage?

If you're able to walk 2-3 miles that's terrific. Even if you're only doing it several days a week, it's better than nothing. My doc preaches about exercising every single day for a minimum of 30-45 minutes. In theory that's great but in reality I think most post surgery aren't able to do that much exercise because they simply just can't. I couldn't walk to my mailbox without my knees hurting like crazy or being out of breath. I started slow and now I'm able to walk about 2 miles at a time. I try to walk at least every other day and also get to the gym a couple to 3 times a week. I know that I really do feel better when I get exercise, but some days it's just not possible to get in.

I think doing what you're able to do, when you can do it is a good place to start. As the body gets lighter and stronger you'll naturally be able to do more.

Keep up the good work.

I am only 8 days out and have been home for 4 days, I have made myself walk to the post office box which is about a mile I thought to myself I would make it this weeks goal whilst healing from operation to just walk to the PO BOX.

Well yesterday I wanted to keep walking so I did I did 3 miles and today I was in a bit of pain and thought I would have a break but later in the day I thought nope I want to go for a walk so I did another 3 miles.

I'm very proud of what I have done, as I reached my weeks goal and then went on some more.

But I would not do more than what my body would allow me, I'm taking each day as it comes and there is one thing that I made a NO COMPRIMISE with myself and that was I have to go for a walk everyday, it doesn't matter what time just do it.

Just think, you have wanted this for so long and the surgery is only one tool in the weight loss game, it's a great one but it still requires you to put in some effort along the way.

If you find it hard after work try a little walk before walk and maybe at lunch time, find ways around work where it requires you to move more like taking stairs if possible, and walking to a co worker instead of ringing or emailing them. just little things like that you can use to add to your exercise bank.

Good luck :)

So what is the progression on exercise? When can I start walking? Aerobics? Zumba? Weights? Real core work?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
