a switch flipped and now I'm always Hungry

Recommended Posts

Help! I'm not sure what is going on, but I am always hungry now. It started a little over a week ago.

i went from not wanting to eat anything and having no cravings AT ALL - to this.

And I can eat a lot (i think) before feeling full!

i have been so good for over 6 months (4 months post op and 2 months prior).

I was worried because I had to force myself to eat and I hated it.

I mean I was NEVER hungry before. even the 2 months prior to surgery, i had trained myself to eat better and know the difference between head hunger and real hunger.

Now, I crave carbs - not sweets. Always.

I tried some baked pita chips with Hummus and that was the wrong thing because now I am wanting it all the time.

y calorie intake went from 700-800 to almost 1200! (I am still burning more than that - but still.)

I still do Protein shakes and make sure to get 60g or more of Protein in a day.

Anyone else? Suggestions for better snack ideas?

You should have already been at 1000-1200 calories. 700-800 is not enough in my opinion and you are rightfully hungry! Esp if you're working out!

I have found that sometimes I mistake my hunger for thirst. On days that I drink my 80 to 100 oz of Water, I do not eat as much or feel as hungry.

My snack idea: water... :)

Have you journaled and checked in about "head hunger"? I am five years out, 140# gone and no physical hunger sensations ever. I battle head hunger though. I'm "hungry" when I'm at my desk, when I'm physically weary, when I'm stressed, when I'm bored and when I'm distracted. I can be uncomfortably full and yet be "starving"

I've also learned that it's not just psychosocial hunger. Thinking about food, like trying to an healthy meals, can trigger head hunger. The game doesn't change, I just have a better tool to use to beat the enemy.

Oh spellcheck fun: psychological hunger, although psychosocial could fit too. And I try to "plan" healthy meals

Are you eating carbs? If so, stop!!! They cause cravings like crazy.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
