I am scheduled for my sleeve on June 15th. I have read so many posts about people that stall along with posts about people that have slow loss and some with fast losses.

It makes me want to not even weigh but maybe once a month or less after my surgery. Is there anyone else who doesn't weigh very often?

My plan is to only weigh in the doctor's office. That way everything will be on the same scale and I won't get obsessed with it. I tend to get really scale obsessed. At one point, I was weighing myself 3 times day!

Also, they have a really fancy tanita scale that is probably more accurate than mine.

I only weigh at the Doctors office. I went for my one month post-op appointment yesterday and that was the first time I ever remember being eager to get on a scale and being happy with the results.

Unfortunately, I have read too many posts by people who are just out of surgery and agonizing over the number in the scale. Not weighing every day is great for my sanity.

I was the opposite...I weighed everyday because I felt it gave me more control. I have my weight written down everyday for most of my adult life but the times I gained were the times I stopped weighing myself everyday. Since surgery I have written my weight down every single day so I can see exactly when I had stalls, when I went up or down, and around the times that I added or removed something from diet or exercise how it affected my weight. There are days, like yesterday, when I get on the scale and I want to throw it through a wall, however because I knew immediately I had gained weight I was super careful yesterday and this morning I was right back to normal. When I weigh everyday, I can fix a problem immediately, whereas when I don't, if something I have been doing is causing a gain I may not realize until I have to lose 5 or 10 pounds instead of 1 or 2. I'm a pretty controlling person so I would go crazy if I wasn't 100% sure what I weighed every single morning. I took my scale with me on vacation. Amusingly, I weigh myself on 2 scales everyday because I got the Aria on that syncs to fitbit awhile ago, but I wasn't wiling to give up my original scale. So yes, I weigh myself on two scales every morning. Obsessive, a little, but skinny, so worth it. :)

I was 12 weeks post op yesterday (Wed Feb 25 was op day)..

I 'weighed in' at my 4 week check up. I lost 15.2 kg (33lb) in the first month.

I was well pleased with that. I've a massive amount to lose and that was a great start!!

However, I've not 'weighed in' since then. To be honest, I'm scared to.

What if I haven't lost more?

Worse, what if I've gained weight?

Now, I know I'm being paranoid. I can tell by the fit of my clothes and by the way I feel that I've lost weight. And again, I believe I've lost a good amount.

But I'm still hesitant to jump on the scales.

Yesterday I decided it was time to bite the bullet and make an appointment with my nutritionist. I'm booked in for 1000hrs next Friday, May 29.

I'm really quite mervous about it. I have a number in mind and I know I'll be disappointed if I've not achieved it. But the only way to know for sure is to do it.

Never weighed myself until I started this process. I agree easier to lose 1-2 lbs verses more.

I prefer to weigh everyday. I've spend years avoiding the scale for weeks and months at a time, and it sure didn't get me anywhere other than fatter and fatter. I know my weight will stall and fluctuate from day to day, but I'm 100% sure I'm not overeating or eating things that's bad for me. So I'm not going to freak out about it.

True. I never did before, and look what happened to me. So obviously it wasn't the right idea for me to avoid scales. It's took me 10 yrs to gain all this thru 5 back surgeries, unsuccessful surgeries. I was always small before, but it packed on from over eating and no exercise. So my new outlook is different. Gonna exercise and eat wisely. Been trying out Protein Drinks and bars and like them. I've cut from a 2 liter a day and no Water, to 1 glass a day of pop and 8 bottles a day of water. Lost some weight with this.

I weigh everyday!!! Yeyy. I love to weigh. Even if I have no loss or have even gained a pound back, I have been ok! I just have more control over what I did or didn't do the day before. Good luck

Thanks everyone! I just need to remember not to freak out if I weigh and I haven't gained. I have a bad habit of seeing a gain and giving up and bingeing. I think I will avoid the scale until the first post-op appt.

The problem with weighing every day is that there are natural fluctuations in Water weight that may look like a gain or loss, but aren't really. When I weighed every day, I would gain 3 - 5 pounds during the week leading up to my period, then after my period I would drop 7 - 8 pounds, and then about a day before ovulating my weight would jump 5 - 7 pounds again and drop again a few days later. That's why I think it is best to weight once a month. All of these patterns of gaining and losing water weight even out. Plus, it is nice to see bigger losses on the scale. I was weighing every day for about a year. I like it better seeing a 10 pound loss on the scale once a month than seeing all of that fluctuation.

Many people are against weighing daily and only weight weekly or monthly. I prefer to weigh everyday. I will even weigh at different times during the day. It helps to keep me on track. I don't get upset if I don't lose or even if I am a little heavier, but it motivates me to work harder and to stay on track. I also do measurements about once a week or so.

      Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
      I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

      Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

      Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
