How can reach my protein goals without shakes?

Recommended Posts

--Greek yogurt

--scrambled or poached eggs

--milk

--kefir

--cottage cheese

--pureed meat (puree with broth or a flavorful sauce to make it tasty, heat it up a little and melt some cheese on top).

--refried Beans

I don't know if you can meet your goal but you should be able to get close if you focus on high Protein foods and don't waste valuable stomach space on grains or other high-carb foods like fruit or potatoes.

On purees, I was allowed high Protein food only. Everything had to be pureed in a food processor except yogurt, cottage cheese, poached or scrambled eggs, and refried Beans. Every plan seems to vary though!

Also you can always order Protein shakes online?

The bottom line is that real fod will stick with you longer than Protein Shakes, so eat Protein every chance you get to get it in...agree with @@Bufflehead don't waste space on things that are not protein!

Can you order Protein powder online and have it shipped to you?

I find it hard to believe you can get Protein shakes anywhere in your town. If you have a Walmart, Target, RiteAid, CVS, Walgreens.... any of those will sell Protein Shakes, just maybe not the best selection.

If you really just have NO WAY to get shakes, then the things @@Bufflehead are good sources of protein for the early stages. I was also allowed string cheese during my soft foods phase.

@Bufflehead has a great list there! I also ate a lot of chicken salad at that stage.

Most fish varieties are VERY high in Protein, though that will help you more when you are in the soft food stage. Just google bariatric Protein shakes almost everything you can order online direct from the websites or Amazon.< /p>

Every shake brand I tried and every possible fruit / flavor, etc... combination made me just want to barf. powder, pre-mixed, milk based, Water based, whatever it was all just disgusting. I finally resigned myself to Isopure clear They look like Gatorade. GNC has them. They come in 20 oz bottles and has 40 g of Protein. I've even been making Isopure popsicles and that's helped too! Black bean Soup is pretty much all pureed too, so you can try that as well.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
