Feeling frustrated - Please help

Recommended Posts

Hello friends.... I am feeling very frustrated and would like some advice. I had full gastric bypass surgery on April 21, first week loss was great, second week loss was good, the scale hasn't moved but maybe 1 lb for the last 12 days. I don't know what to think. Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks,

Sheri

Hey Sheri,

I had surgery the same day as you. I went through this from about May 2nd thru 12th, had a bit of a loss, but am now bouncing up a couple of pounds and then down small amounts for a few days, up, down, up, down. I am now making slow progress downward. From what I have seen and talked with others about this is totally "normal". Try to ignore the scale numbers...yes, I know exactly how hard that is! Our bodies need some time to adjust to the massive changes we have forced upon them. Are your clothes fitting any more loosely? Are you feeling a bit better and stronger, healthier? We will lose weight! The numbers will go down, but for now we need to focus on other NonScale Victories.

Thank you Oregon Teacher for your response. I try not to feel frustrated, but it just really put me down yesterday when I got on the scale and noticed only a 1 lb difference in 12 days. I am going to try harder next week to get more physical activity in and all of my Proteins in. I have had a hard time getting both in. So I will try a different plan next week. My clothes are fitting more loosely but I am stuck between pant sizes and the ones I have to wear look terrible. I am feeling great. I still get tired sometimes, but I think that is because of the lack of Protein intake. I take my Bariatric Vitamins daily as well. We will lose weight, I will make that my chant this next week :)

It sounds like you are doing everything right. Remember two things: one - muscle weighs more than the same amount of fat. Two - down one is better than gaining and your body needs an adjustment period.

Keep doing what you are doing! You've got this!

I am in my 5th week. I had surgery April 15th. I was losing and losing, then the 4th week hit and it stopped for me. my scale is finally moving again. I just kept doing what I was told. Eating when I'm suppose to and drinking as much as I can. Thd good news is that when my scale stopped moving, my body kept changing. I noticed more in the last week my pants are so much more loose, my bra (well I think it's time to go shopping), and my shoes. Thank God my sweet mother bought me a new pair of tennis shoes. I feel like I am walking in someone else's shoes.

My surgery was also on 04/21, and inexperienced a stall of nearly a week. Weight loss eventually started up again, as many here indicated would happen. I wouldn't worry about it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
