I no longer like chocolate

Recommended Posts

I am two months and two weeks post op. Maybe the fact that I have not been craving chocolate should have been a tip off. Today I had a Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia ice cream bar. I bit into the thing and nearly gagged. I pulled the chocolate out of my mouth and tried to scoop out the ice cream inside the bar and eat it. I thought I was going to throw up. I ended up throwing the whole thing in the trash. I guess it's true that the taste buds change.

My taste buds have changed quite a bit also. As of now, I don't like overly sweet foods.

BTW - it's probably a good thing that you couldn't eat that ice cream bar, huh?

@@Lipstick lady, what on earth are you doing licking ashtrays the morning after St patty's day. I thought we warned you that this was not a healthy habit ????

Maybe it's from all of the sweet Protein Shakes we had to endure! Just a thought! Lol I know I'm sick of chocolate shakes and chocolate bars!!! But I have to have them! Haven't tried "real chocolate" yet!

I guess I'm unusual. I never experienced a change in my food preferences. As soon as the immediate post-op ickies were over, i wanted to eat all the same goodies I liked before. I only avoided them because I wanted to lose weight, not because I thought they were too sweet. The only change I have noticed is that since I am still less hungry than before WLS, I have an easier time walking away from temptation.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
