Post op 1 day, question about drinking.

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I was banded yesterday, the surgery went fine and I think I am recovering well so far. In the documentation I was given it says to only drink 1-2 ounces every 20 minutes and 6-8 ounces per hour. I seem to be able to drink more than that.

I am drinking liquids slowly, no gulping, but I am able to do closer to 16-20 ounces per hour without feeling sick or any pain, i think I can feel the liquid passing through the band, but I'm not sure I can accurately say what that feels like yet until my surgery pain/swelling is gone. Will drinking too much liquid screw me up in any way? My throat and nasal passages are both raw and dry after the surgery and drinking Water is giving me relief on that. Also I am used to drinking a gallon+ of Water per day. Other than the amount of water I am drinking I am completely following the other post op dietary restrictions.

Thanks for any information,

Dave

Please don't hesitate to call your team with questions. They really are there to help you! From my own experience, I had no drinking limitations except to keep my liquids sugar free. My guess is that as long as you have no discomfort, drink away!! Congrats on your surgery!

As the PP says. If you were given medical instructions, don't go against them without checking wth your medical team But I had no limits given.

Congratulations on your surgery! Like the others I did not have any limitations on liquid intake. I was pretty much able to drink anything -- especially liked warm tea and broth. Oh, and those Popsicles, lol. Check with your doctor and keep checking in with your body. It's all about the listening now. Learning how to listen to your body.

Of course, call your doctor or team with questions. I was told to drink as much as possible as they were concered about the possibility of dehydration at first. As long as Fluid is going through well, I would think the more the better. Possibly, they just wanted to make sure patients were getting enough fluids and your instructions were just the minimum amount required to keep from getting dehydrated. Oh, and congrats, you are on your way to healthier life. This site has so much good information. You are in the right place.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
