Aetna Ins. with two more classes to take before surgery :)

Recommended Posts

I saw my surgeon on March 19th and was told by the bariatric advisor that I would be looking at surgery for the first part of August. I have already met with my dietician and had my first class on “Hunger” Now I am being told I have two more class then I see my final visit with my surgeon. I didn’t understand why surgery would be in August if I only need 3 months of monitored visits for my Insurance co. AETNA why do I have to wait so long. They claim it will take 2 weeks for Aetna to approve everything once they get it. Any feedback is appreciated.

Hi there!

We are almost on identical paths. I too have Aetna insurance and am on a 3 month multi-disciplinary program. Last month I had my first consultation visit. My first appointment is May 15 and I need to be seen for 90 days after that date. Which actually works out to be in August as well. So technically not 3 months but rather 90 days. I was confused myself but since I got some clarification it makes more sense to me. Of course this may not be the case with you but I figured that I would share! Best of luck to you on your journey :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
