How is everything going? I'm going for my Options orientation tomorrow

I wanted to update that I'm on week 2 of Options class. So far it is pretty interesting, the only issue I have is that I noticed the instructors really really push gastric bypass.

They used reasoning like we see a lot of people who come back after the sleeve and lap band to get gastric bypass. They reasoned that means people with sleeves gain the weight back and gastric bypass doesnt. To me that is faulty reasoning since if you get gastric bypass there is no other surgery you can have after so thats why you don't see them again. That doesn't mean they didnt gain weight back.

I finished Options on December 16, and my surgery is on February 16. In my Options class, they didn't push any surgery over another. They did however, really inform us on the differences, pro and con, and continually told us the descision is ultimately up to us. I was 98% sure I wanted the sleeve, but I waited until I met with my surgeon before my final descision was made. He agreed with my descision, and it was his recommendation as well. My wife took the Options class with me as well. She missed a class and had to make it up with another class and instructor. She was appalled at the instructors attitude about the surgery. It was week 2 or 3, and she kept telling them about people she knew that committed suicide after the surgery. She felt she was going out of her way to scare people from having the surgery. We found out later that there were a lot of complaints that came from that class. The bottom line is, whether this surgery is successful has everything to do with you, and whether or not you stay on the program. If my surgery fails, and I gain my weight back, it is because I failed, not my sleeve!

Hello, sorry I am just seeing this. I had to wait from April to June to start my OPTIONS CLASS. I started June 16 and ended September 1, 2015. I lost 29 lbs pre-op which was more than the 10%. I saw the surgeon, Dr. Casillas at West LA on 9/21/2015. I chose or at least indicated a preference for the SLEEVE. Dr. Casillas said I could go either way - I had no GERD or DIABETES which I believe they prefer those patients go with the BYPASS.

I had my surgery 10/7/2015. I am currently almost 4 months out and have lost a total of 57 lbs, from 225 referral weight, to 196 surgery weight, to 168 currently.

I am a slow loser, which is fine with me. I avg about 1 lb a week, sometimes more, sometimes less, but as long as I am continuing to go down, I am ok with this.

I would recommend Dr. Casillas in West LA. He did a great job. The OPTIONS program is a big help to be successful because it really gives you the education needed to make good decisions about the surgery and the post-op diet.

@@AshleyMcN23 How was South Bay? We have the option of South Bay or West LA and I want the fastest facility. I'm hearing now that West LA is booking for Mid May already which is really far out for me. I want the sooner the better.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
