I just got banded yesterday at TLBC in Toronto(duh, lol)

I slept most of yesterday, but woke up a few times in need of pain medication.

The pain isen't as bad as I thought it would be, but I'm still having sholder pain(from the inflating) and some chest tightness here and there.

Besides that, i pretty much just don't like that fact that I can't sleep on my side for now.(I hate sleeping on my back)

So, is there anything any of your recomend to do for the first few days?

I know all about the liquid diet(which is fine by me, I love cranberry juice and broth)

The soulder pain will probably be there a couple of weeks. I found the pain meds I had didn't do anymore than tylenol and heat.

all the doc told me to take was advil liqui-gels - which did fine - as far as diet - lots of Water, sugar free popsicles, sugar free jell-o - being on my back was a big problem for me too - I was on my feet almost as soon as they got me out of recovery - they put me in some kind of recliner and I had to get up and lean on it instead of laying in it, no shoulder pain though - congrats on the band hope you recover well

If it's comfortable to sleep on your side then it's fine. It took me a couple of days to get there myself but I'm a side sleeper so I couldn't wait.

If you don't like sleeping flat on your back you may want to get a bed wedge. It's just a piece of foam and you can buy one at any place that sells foam for beds or pillows. You can also buy them at health care places but they're quite expensive. The wedge helped me at the beginning.

Congrats to both of you and welcome to bandland!

Yeah, Jetlagjane, I didn't find much pain yesterday, mostly because I too was asleep, but also, the pain meds they gave you there are pretty strong, and keep in your system.

Today has been worse...but then again, the first 48 hours allways are.

Keep on top of it though! Take that demrol!!!

Even if you might not think you need it, I'm taking it every four hours, I'm not waiting for a butt load of pain to catch up with me.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
