Fixated on the scale

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I haven't posted for a while but I read new posts daily.

I had my surgery on January 8th 2015 and I am down 40 lbs which I am thrilled with :) My current dilemma is that the scale haven't moved in 3 weeks. I am happy that I haven't gained and I am feeling better than ever. I am down 3 dress sizes and have so much energy. The thing is that I am fixated on that scale. I know I am going to have plateaus and I know I am not in the green yet but I am having anxiety about the numbers. I guess this is the point in my previous diet experiences where I would throw in the towel and give up. I am trying to stay positive and my family, friends and doctor are great supports. I am just looking for support and any advice my fellow banders have.

Throw the scale away! Personally I weigh twice every single day but that is fine because the numbers don't worry me! In fact, being now long past the losing phase, they keep me aware! But if numbers worry you, stop weighing! Lots of people get stressed by numbers and that just IMO makes you obsess about food, eating, loss etc..

Try measuring instead? Find a set of clothes just a bit too tight and try them on every week? And, as you say, don't worry about a plateau - plateaux pass!!

When that happened to me my counselor suggested that I not worry about the scale but start measuring myself - sure enough I was loosing inches - start a graph for yourself and see if that isn't the case.

Hi there, I think you nailed it about the previous life of diet success followed by failure -- that fear that it won't work. It is totally working! Keep your appointments, keep tuning in and learning to listen to your body, noticing signals, etc. For me, my jeans are the best indicator of where I am. I went from size 18 to size 12 in the very same Lee longs. The scale and I have a love/hate relationship.

Good luck with all! Don't forget to pat yourself on the back......you're doing beautifully.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
