Medication crushing

Recommended Posts

My cholesterol pills can't be crushed. I am swallowing them whole.

I never crushed any of my meds. They gave me my meds whole in the hospital within hours of my surgery. I suggest calling your surgeon's office and asking them when you can swallow pills whole again.

When I left the hospital I was given a pill splitter/grinder, but was told I could have anything about the size of an eraser when swallowing pills. Now I take my allergy pills and other medications just fine whole.

I never crushed my meds. I was allowed to swallow my tiny pills (birth control and PPI) immediately and resume my whole larger pills (multivitamin, Calcium, etc) at 7 days post-op.

I have been swallowing my medications whole since day of surgery. I have no problem. Each pill, one at a time with a small swallow of Water.

I was crushing the pills one day after surgery and almost threw up because it was so digusting. After doing that for 2 days I just started taking the pills as a whole. Been fine since then :)

I had to wait until 8 weeks after surgery to take whole pills. Ask your pharmacy for liquid options, or other options. Once again, the pills can get stuck in the staple line, so be careful!

:D :D I'm so happy to see this thread! I am only 7 days post-op and...UGH...so over crushing my pills. I take 6 meds, of various sizes, and OMG, they taste so nasty mixed or concealed in anything.

I'm going to try cutting them into tiny pieces tonight and see how it goes.

Thanks so much for all your posts, you guys!

:D :D

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
