My First Consultation experience

Recommended Posts

My first initial visit with Dr. Michael Orris and the WLIA staff was very professional and thorough. The staff took their time to go over all my questions and explain how the process is for my procedure with the lapband. They made me feel very comfortable and made sure I knew exactly what was involved. I feel really good about my first interaction with them and plan to move forward with the next step in my journey.

An important aspect to my first visit/consultation, was they ran my Insurance, determined the coverage for WLS, and printed out a list of the pre-rquirements I had to go through (Hoop Jumping) including a 6 month Dr. supervised diet.

Ditto to your experience, B-52. Initially thought it was a big PITA, but it had to be done that way.

You are on your way! I must have called my insurance company ten times just to make sure I had it all down correctly. For me there was only one "hoop" and that was a BMI of 40. It was a bit stressful to manage that as I was borderline, but I got there. All of that seems so long ago and now it's less than two years later and I've reinvented my life minus 75 pounds. So grateful. I love my band and my new life!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
