8 days post-op, no BM, and gained weight

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved 3/31, no complications, and came home on 4/1. Since then, my weight has remained the same until today when I gained 1 lb. I have not had a BM yet, even though I've been drinking Miralax the last 3 days. I'm starting to freak out and am very discouraged! Is this normal or should I call my surgeon?

Relax you're still swollen inside. Call the doctor about your bm but really you haven't been putting much in so you probably can't expect much out. Just make sure your staying hydrated. I know if I don't, I get nauseous and feel like crap. Even now 6 weeks out. Try to get your Vitamins in. Please stop driving yourself crazy weighing yourself every day(or more;) ) it will make you insane. It will come of in due time. Your gonna be swollen for a couple weeks and you still have all the Fluid from the hospital in you. Just relax sweetie.

Stay hydrated for sure. As for the bm, try Smooth Move tea. It has Senna in it which is a laxative. I took it 3 days post op just to nib things in the bud. Don't stress the weight gain, I gained 3 lbs and all of sudden it was gone. Good luck!

I came home 7lbs heavier from surgery. It is from the IV fluids and the inflammation... Water retention. I let nature take its course on the BM, you really don't have much to make enough waste to have a normal one. It finally came (out, lol) on day 4, followed by a day of diarrhea. However, I ended up 13 lbs down at 2 weeks.... so once you start getting in plenty of fluids your body will start releasing any Water retention, and the scales will start moving down.

Are you getting in all your fluids?

I have been trying but, no, I haven't been getting in all the fluids they say I should get. I'll keep working on it. My dr said to call back if no BM in 2 more days and they will call in an rx for something.

Glad you called your Doc! I think he must be used to this issue, it seems pretty common. Keep following your plan, work on your fluids, and it will all resolve itself soon... even that darned "stuck" scale. I really think the first 2 weeks are the weirdest in adjusting to everything... it starts getting easier from there on out. Hang in there.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
