Feeling doomed, the $ in RNY pills/protein budget unknown. HELP!

Recommended Posts

Well cutting out a meal a day just because you can and not because you're doctor wants you to before surgery can't hurt. If you go to a Vitamin Shoppe or other Vitamin supplement place you can buy individual packs on some of the Protein Shakes too see which ones you like. It can't hurt to get some fat of your liver. My doctor had me on a Liquid Protein diet for 30 days to cleanse and lower the fat in my liver. It also REALLY tests your commitment lol. Your taste buds do change. I used to be a coffee fanatic at least 4 cups a day. Now I can't even drink one. I don't like the taste anymore(I'm actually sad about that.) Don't just do the minimum, push yourself. And yes I think it will help you get off your sleeping meds at least somewhat. I sleep so much better without sugar and yes my old friend coffee in my system and since I was on the verge of sleep apnea is helped there too. I feel better every day. It's been a rough month or so much Ive really turned the corner I think.

@, I have read on here quite a few times that medicines used for depression have been reduced and sometimes even discontinued following surgery. I am not sure about other psych illnesses. I do not know what your current situation is but this type of transformation can be life altering.

For me, it has been one of the most positive experiences of my life. I believe when I am 10 years down the road, I will feel the same way.

Anyway, maybe do a quick search on here and see what you find.

Good luck on your next steps and if you need anything feel free to reach out.

Hi all!

I'm going in on the 4/9 to set my date for revision to RNY.

There may not be a surgery, after all this work, if I can't resolve the financial issues around it.

Protein. How many tubs will I need to buy in the medium run? And what could be the cost. I'm thinking Unjury (get my samples tomorrow).

The pre-op Vitamins, calcium citrate and chewable multi are expensive when added to the script list I'm on already.

WHAT FINANCIAL OBLIGATION TO pills AND PROTEIN AM I LOOKING AT??!! I'm frightened that I'll be putting the surgery off forever, not knowing my RNY related budget.

Can you help me? I'm feeling very frightened and doomed, and I don't want to feel this way if I don't need to. Just need to realistically know the budget.

Hi all!Hi, I am 22 months in. My insurance covered ungury. Your doctor can write a script and you have to special order it. Good luck.

Also, if you're on name-brand prescriptions, be sure to go online and look at the medication's website. In many cases, you can get savings coupons for the prescription, and they drastically cut down the price. One of my coworkers told me about it when I was complaining that my Nexium prescription was going to cost me $70/month WITH insurance. The Nexium website has a savings card that cuts the cost of the prescription to $15. If you're on multiple non-generic meds, you could save a significant amount of money every month using the savings cards.

As for Protein, try ordering sample packs. That way, you'll have a variety of things to try after surgery, but you aren't out a ton of money if you don't like them. My personal favorite brand so far is Jay Robb's egg white Protein shakes. They're relatively bland, but I like them because they are sweetened with Stevia instead of Splenda/sucralose (I can't stand the flavor of Spenda). You can order sample packs of both the egg white varieties and the regular whey varieties from Jay Robb's website. I believe you can also order samples from unjury and nectar. A lot of people love the nectar Protein Shakes, but I personally find them disgusting due to the Splenda.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
