I was banded in 2001. Like many others I started out doing great and lost right at 100 lbs. Then the honeymoon period was over and I started gaining weight. I was exercising regularly but I was noticing I could eat more then I should be able to eat. I would go for a fill and get restriction but it would only last for a few hours. Come to find out I have a leak in the band somewhere and my doctor wants to go in and repair the leak. I have decided to go another route and get a mini gastric bypass. I am tired of having to go and get fills since I live almost 2 hours from my doctor, I am tired of every time I fly I get pulled aside because they see the band in the scanner, I am tired of having acid reflux nightly but most importantly I am tired of being obese. The best I could realistically look forward to losing is 50% of my excess weight with the repaired band. The mini gastric bypass on average people lose 70%. I have a date set and am counting down the days. For anyone considering dumping the Lap Band I would say do it and remember the you didn't fail the band failed you like it has so many.

Hi Maverick! Congratulations on taking the step into a non-reversible surgery! :) I was banded in 2007 in Mexico and had virtually no aftercare. I had fill nurses but all they did was fill me whenever I wanted. Long 7-year story short, I ended up right back at my band surgery weight plus 5 more pounds. I am having gastric bypass day after tomorrow and I have hope for the first time in a very long time. Thank you for the reminder that I did not fail; my band did. I need to remember that this time I am in control, along with my surgery team, and that I CAN do this. You have a wonderful attitude and I know you will succeed this time as well. Take care!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
