Recommended Posts

Going in on the 28th to get sleeved, can anyone describe the feeling? What's life like? Will I still feel hungry?

The first week was rough, slept alot, bit as long as you get rest, you can do stuff. I went to my daughters chorus concert 2 days after surgury, and a Christmas party like 4 days after it. I don't get hungry, but I do hey cravings for certain things. Strange, but I'm getting used to it. The most important thing is how great I feel now, off of all prestription meds, full of energy, loving life!!! CONGRATULATIONS on your decision to change your life!!!

I feel hungry but I get full super fast. I can describe life now as the same but I feel better in my skin every day. It is so strange when I sit down to eat now cause I still think I am going to be able to eat a certain amount and then my stomach say "Um, NO!" lol. The first day is the hardest but it does get better. When you think of how bad you feel at first just remember it is the drugs they have you on. When i went home the second day I felt like myself again. Keep your head up and eye on the prize, Oh and by the way.....Congratulations!

Thank you guys, how long before you returned to work after surgery?

I was sleeved on a Thursday (July 31st) and worked from home on the following Monday and returned to work on the following Tuesday.

I had little to no pain (no gas pain) from the surgery and was sleeping on my stomach two nights after returning home.

My wife and son have since had the surgery as well and experienced more pain than I did but it was manageable after a couple of days after the surgery.

Everyone's experience is different. I do believe that a large part of it is how much you prepared for the surgery both mentally and physically before the surgery. I lost over 40 lbs prior to my surgery and believe that played a big part in my recovery. The only issues that I had post surgery was the feeling of light headedness which we found was attributable to my blood pressure medication that I had been on. I was off the bp medication six days after surgery and have also been off my CPAP machine as well about two weeks after surgery.

This is the best thing I have ever done for myself. My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner.

Best of luck with your procedure. You will not regret it.

I was out a month but probably could have gone back a week or two earlier if it was necessary.

It feels weird at first, but not really in a painful way. The pain meds were more than enough to take the edge off and only needed those for the first week. The wake up in recovery is about the only painful part but that is very brief.

Hunger is sometimes an issue but it's a different and much more manageable hunger than before. I find that the further out I get the less physically hungry I feel although my head often wants to eat. When I do eat it's almost a dissapointment since my head is expecting more but my sleeve is full fast. (I also eat way to fast so that probably doesn't help)

Overall, it's great and weight melts off pretty easily. I'd do it again for sure.

Be sure to read up and prepare for the mental aspects of it. Being prepared helps when your head starts messing with you, and it probably will.

"The Emotional First Aid Kit" is a good read prior to surgery and it goes beyond the physical aspects that most books dwell on. The mental stuff is the hardest part and honestly even that isn't really that tough.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
