Slipped big time! How's everyone else doing?

Recommended Posts

Well today I totally stuffed up! I am 3 weeks post and ate a whole packet (121g) of maltesers thru the course of 3 hours this evening! I feel so awful mentally not physically cause I did it! I also went out to eat with my 3 kids and my mum and we went Toby carvery and it was so funny as my girls had bigger plates of food than I did! I ate about 20g Turkey 50g mash and had loads of gravy to make it mushy! I also had a 50g size Yorkshire! took me about half hour to eat it, it didn't make me feel ill or anything I felt comfortably full not sick full! Over in uk it goes 1-2 weeks liquids 2-4 weeks soft foods 4-6 weeks start introducing harder stuff! But my consultant suggested I tried meats as long as I chew to a mush which I did! I am at a stall at moment and actually gained 3kg but it's my time of the month in next few days so I am not shocked!!!!!

Hope everyone else is doing well!

Hi I'm from the UK too and I am 16 days post op. I went out last night and couldn't hold down anything except Soup. I couldn't imagine eating any meats just now. Did you find it difficult before your latest meal to eat anything or has it been easy so far??

Initially it was that nothing stayed down and it all poured out but now I am 21 days post and although it hurts or uncomfortable sometimes I am very careful with how much goes in my mouth and take a long time chewing

It' good to see some other UK folk on here.

Don't worry about your Malteesers slip up. Everyone falls off the wagon, just get back on and learn from it. Luckily for me, I've not found avoiding sweets too difficult - for me it is the savoury stuff. I can hear my name being called every time I pass a KFC or a Greggs.

I can't start normal foods until week six, I'm currently in soft solid stage, so eating a lot of cold sliced meat from the deli counter. I had some sourdough bread yesterday and it was the most amazing thing ever, though it felt wrong to throw away the lovely yummy crusts. Luckily I've not had any problems keeping anything down yet.

I am having same issue of kfc, Mac Donald's, crazy chicken, it's pure hell for me as everyone I talk to or see eat it still! Or a bit piece of rump steak with ketchup

I wouldn't feel too bad about it. Just start over and be careful going forward. Our bellies are still fragile. Side note - this American girl would kill for some Nandos right about now!

Sadly, I had the worst holiday meal ever. I'm sure just eating too fast. Tried a bite of pork loin, 3 bites home made Mac & cheese & 2 deviled eggs. After every single bite, I went to bathroom in pain & threw up. :( I'm 10 weeks out. Thought for sure it would've been better. On bright side (I guess) I didn't keep anything in to gain anything! :)

Why in the world would you keep eating if you were in pain and throwing up after every bite? Genuinely curious.

I truly see no bright side in this behavior.

I would slow the eating down, chew more thoroughly thinking this bite will stay down. Cause after 10 weeks, and it being Easter & having not eaten much.....I was excited for a meal other than yogurt. It's been a frustrating 10 weeks. I want to eat! I want something to stay down & not have pain.

And "no bright side in this behavior"? Do you know me? Do you know what I've gone thru in 10 weeks? What my eating habbits have been? What my wt loss has been? My exercise? Didn't think so. I've followed this plan to the T. Worked my butt off for where I am. And am proud of what I've done so far!

Whilst I understand both sides I think that lipstick lady's point was that you could cause damage to yourself if you are throwing up all the time and pushing things too far. I understand that as the diet is restrictive you want to branch out and try other things but you should listen to your body and work with it and not with your cravings for other types of food. Take your time and look after yourself.. personally I would hate for you to end up back in hospital or your journey to take a step back

Nope, you're right. I sure don't.

I do know that no amount of exercise, weight loss, adherence to plan, butt working, etc. will EVER "justify" continuing to eat despite pain and vomiting with each bite.

I have a stricture. I have had more than my share of vomiting and pain. I am smart enough to know that at ten weeks out, your stomach is still healing. Excessive vomiting causes damage to your esophagus and teeth. It can damage your new sleeve and cause you to pop blood vessels in your eyes and face as well as lead to dehydration. Continuing to eat despite pain and vomiting and justifying it that "at least you can't gain" from what you ate also smacks of bulimia, a serious eating disorder that I fear for myself at times.

I can't imagine that there is a doctor out there that would approve of continuing to eat despite pain and vomiting with each bite. I know when I have an episode, my doctor wants me back on liquids for the next few hours minimum.

I'm not judging you and if my words don't pertain to you, ignore them. They may spark a level of understanding in someone else reading that might be experiencing the same.

Good luck to you. If your habits work for you, have at it! :D

Ok, lets clarify a few things....I DONT do this on a dly basis. I eat what I know I can handle/tolerate. It was Easter, with family. I did not want to drink Water while they ate. I DO understand what vomiting does, I've been an RN for 23 yrs. Your condescending attitude is what irritates me. The no weight gained, was a joke. Did you really think I was serious about that?? And lastly, if that's not judging....you & I have 2 diff meanings to that term.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
