So I decided after many years of being overweight and health issues, I decided to get the gastric sleeve. I am so ready for the surgery. I wanna know if anybody has had any issues with Anthem/Blue Cross and part of Seaside Medical Group and getting around the 6mth diet. I have Hypertension,Severe sleep apena and borderline diabetic. Any ideas I can present to to the Dr.'s office to see if I can get the diet waived. I am ready to do this. Anybody every had to deal with this issue. Thanks everybody!

Welcome! I don't have any experience with your issue - just wanted to say welcome aboard.

Is it the insurance company or the doctor's office that has the 6 month wait? I have Anthem as well, and for my policy there is a 6 month requirement from Anthem. There is no way around it. If it is the policy of your doctor's office, it is up to their discretion if they will waive the 6 month supervised diet.

It is the insurance, but I am struggling as my weight is now screwing with my knee, and I can't excersise and my wait loss had now turned into a weight gain...I wonder if that is gonna be an issue.

5 back surgeries have also contributed to my weight gain. I'm very excited to change the hand I've been dealt

So an update, now Anthum Blue Cross is in a dispute with Memorial so I have been sent to another Surgon, Dr.Malgorzata Stanzcyk, MD over at St. Marys in Long Beach. I am hitting my last month of the weight loss, which honestly after me trying so hard, has been tough. My knee has been hurting from all the walking. I have lost about 15lbs and Im terrified they are gonna say no. I have sleep apena, high BP and its taking a toll on me. I meet with the new doctor this thursday, so I am hping all will go well.

Had my nut appointment today and scheduled for exercise demonstration next month. Started subbing a Protein Drink for one of my meals today too. Not bad at all. Also got snack bars, good too

Went to the doctor...love her. They said I just need to get one more step taken care of, and they can most likely get the surgery done before the end of the month....Im so excited....I go back next week to find out for sure. Just waiting on my PCP to get the diet paperwork back to me. Very exciting.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
