Take a deep breath. Warm broth/tea is your friend. Drink about 3x as much Water as you feel like you need. You can do this!! Tomorrow will be easier, and the next day easier than that. Trust me.

Signed,

Day 13/14 on liquids, and was totally there 10 days ago.

I'm on day 4 and today was way better than yesterday.. I cried on Sunday it was that bad.. Not hunger but the headache and feeling dizzy.. It does get better.. I was doubting the surgery also and I'm not having surgery I until April 8th.. chicken broth does help a lot!!

I did NOT think it would be this bad. I am on day 2 and totally just cheated and didn't strain my chicken and rice Soup ???? I am flipping starving. My family went out to eat to spare me the smells of dinner and while I am grateful I still almost cried when they left ????

It is difficult. My surgery is April 7. I try to think about each day and what I am allowed to eat and space it out. In between my Protein Shakes, etc, I drink lots of Water. I try flavored water to mix things up. I can work from home but I prefer going to the office. I don't have to food temptations there. When my food desires get really strong, I gulp water and go for a walk. For me, this is Holy Week. I also offer up prayers for those with nothing to eat when I feel hungry. It seems to help. Peace to you and good luck.

The liquid diet before surgery is (to me) the hardest part! If you make it through this you can handle this surgery. All of us who have gone through the process of deciding on and being accepted for the surgery know that this is what we want/need and can make it through the liquid diet.

Personally my 3 week long Optifast diet was the hardest ongoing thing I've ever done, but one week out from surgery the challenges are different but (to me) more manageable.

Have faith in the strength you have and drink Water like there's no tomorrow :P

You can do this!! :)

Seriously, good chicken broth was the thing that helped me through this phase and I drank a lot of it. It gets rid of that crappy sweet taste from the Protein Shakes and fills your tummy. You also have to find things to take your mind off it. Take one day at a time and keep your eye on the prize. Everything you are going through is totally worth it in the end. Best of luck to all of you on the pre op diet!

I'm on 11th day liquid diet now, surgery is on Monday. This has been SO difficult!! And my Dr. doesn't allow broth. Only Optifast, Water, crystal light, Decaf herbal tea and SF Jello. That is it! I ended up getting the Numi Savory Teas, and had one of the broccoli cilantro day 2 and 3.

After day 4 it was much easier. Day 5 I felt great and had energy... After day 6 I've had a hard time drinking the 5th shake. But, don't get me wrong... during the day I am hungry! But I just keep thinking 'I can do this for one more day', then just one more, etc... One day at a time & Eye on the prize! (and I'm down 15 lbs, so that helps keep me motivated!)

Good luck to all! Prayers for Monday are appreciated! :)

Thanks midnight_angel. I've had the same feelings of fear today, as the time draws near. But I know I can't back out now. We chose to do this for many reasons and it's going to be life changing. Reading the success stories of post-op people on here is helpful. Good luck to you!!

I just started my 2 weeks liquid diet and my surgery is April 23rd. Question? My friend had bypass done in February and she told me that was ate hard boiled egg whites (no yolk) throughout the 2 week liquid diet. She said her surgery was fine and the doctor said everything looked good. Has anyone else tried egg whites or other alternatives?

I was told no food, no chewing. Your intestines need to be cleared out.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
