I'm 2 years 4 months post-op. I went through 3 distinct periods where my portion size increased.

The 1st 6 months I could eat no more that what I could fit into a 1/2 cup container per meal. 6 - 8 meals per day.

At 1 year I move up to about 6 - 8 ozs. per meal. 4 - 6 meals per day.

Now, I can eat up to 12 ozs per meal, but it varies by the food. I will get full on 6 ozs of meat/chicken/pork, but I can easily eat 8 oz of Brussels sprouts - what I'm having tonight. About 9 pm, I may have a 2oz 200 calorie Protein bar.

I follow the 2-3-2 plan. Eat within 2 hours of waking up in the morning. Eat every 3 hours. Eat within 2 hours of going to bed. Following this helps keep my meals the proportion the should be, 2-4 ounces, and I don't get hungry (if I am eating Protein first, and eating good foods). And then I don't graze, either.

I can eat a small burger with no fries but what surprises me is I now get hunger every 2 hours. I've been 3 years sleeved. I gained 10 lbs since my lowest weight 145..

At 15 months here is what I can typically eat in one sitting....

1/4 pound burger minus the bun.

The smallest Chinese take out container lasts me 3 meals

About 6oz of fish

1 cup of yogurt with 1/4 cup Kashi Cereal mixed in.

1/2 cup thick chili

2/3 -1 cup of most veggies

1/2 small apple/1/4 large apple with Peanut Butter

1 cup hot Cereal or thin Soup

I'm usually hungry after 2 hours but I try not to eat sooner than 3 hours. If I push it to 4 hours I'm STARVING and it's hard to eat slowly. On non-work days I tend to semi-graze and eat up to 8 mini-meals.

Mamaw, When I start getting my old pre-op hunger pangs every 2 hours, for me, it is usually a sign that I've been eating too many carbs... usually from processed foods.

To get back on track and lose the hunger, I eat more Protein, fats and stick to low glycemic carbs like Brussell sprouts, Yellow Squash, broccoli, and cauliflower. I have to pay careful attention to how much I allow myself when it comes to breads, Pasta, potatoes, and rice. I can eat one cup of rice and be okay, but eat a second cup later on, and I'll start getting head hunger and want to overeat.

I believe in my case, it's insulin sensitivity, brought on by too many years of drinking cokes. Just a little bit of sugar causes my insulin levels to spike and later comes the crash, and in turn triggers my hunger cravings.

I can eat a small burger with no fries but what surprises me is I now get hunger every 2 hours. I've been 3 years sleeved. I gained 10 lbs since my lowest weight 145..

That is good to know! I eat granola bars a lot for hunger and it don't last. I can eat two eggs in am but I've been eating a piece of toast with them so that may be why I get hungry soon after... It's the toast! And no drinking after I eat is Almost impossible! I used to drink after almost every bite before being sleeved.

I like the subject here ..actually am very much concerned about how i will eat later ..and if i would gain the weight back after years of being sleeved! ... I'm 9 1/2 months post-op and so far I have lost 85lbs and i still have 35 lbs to lose ...but actually am hitting a plateau. .i nearly lost 1 kilo last month! I feel like my quantities are getting bigger ..now I can eat like 2 oz Protein and less than 1/2cup rice and if i eat veggies than i might only take 2 spoons rice ... I eat 4 to 6 meals a day ..

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
