2 Days Post Open Severe Nausea

Recommended Posts

I hate to alarm you but something is definitely not right. She should be back in the hospital and a doctor who specializes in sleeve surgery should probably do an endoscopy to see what's going on. She should also be hooked up to an IV for fluids as well as an eating tube until they figure this out. Too much time has passed for her not to be getting any better. I would get a different doctor involved. As a mom myself I sympathize what you must be going through. As someone who had the lapband 7 years ago and was revised to the sleeve a few months ago- I'm no doctor but feel very strongly that this is not a normal recovery

I totally agree. Something is not right. I would demand answers asap!

Sounds like a good idea. Are you (or she) recording her intake? If not, start now. You need to have hard data to show the physician. It will also give you both a clearer idea of the issues. Also, she should document each time she urinates and describe it. I know, sounds gross but it is important. If her urine is light yellow, clear, and normal odor that is a sign that her intake is ok. If it is dark, concentrated, strong odor- that's a sign that she needs more fluids. It is also an objective finding that should be reported to the doctor. Having them think you are an over reacting mom is not going to help your daughter. Having data will help alleviate that.

Also, the physician needs to provide you with a treatment plan. I seriously hope he is right and she is just one of those people who have prolonged nausea and vomiting. However, there needs to be specific plans in place.

Hoping for the best!

You can buy one of those toilet hat specimen collectors. It has measuring markers on the inside so you can record her input and put. I would ask them about chemo pt level nausea meds. and possibly admitting her to do a full work up. While complications are not unheard of they are by no means "normal".

Yes I'm keeping track of her intake but not her output. She's been saying it's been difficult to urinate today and she started getting severe flank pain and vomiting.

It's 2am and we are now in the ER. I'm thinking kidney stone. She has had them before. I think she's dehydrated and it's causing problems.

Wow. I am so sorry for everything she has gone through. She sounds like she needs to stay in the hospital for awhile for monitoring & for further testing! She is suffering!

Thanks everyone. She has a 4mm kidney stone that is paying out of the kidney. So painful! They admitted her about 6 this morning and have kept her pain and nausea under control. They are hydrating her and monitoring if the kidney stone passes or not. I feel better knowing she's at least getting hydrated and is finally somewhat comfortable for the first time in a long time. Hopefully the stone passes without her needing surgery. She had had enough suffering!

@@ssourgirl I just read about your daughter and am praying for y'all. My surgery is Thursday and I'm a regular kidney stoner. I worry about myself getting them too. I empathize with her and hope she gets better quickly.

Wow, wonder if that was causing the issue the whole time? She really, really needs to get some Protein Shake in her body..

@@FlabbyNat, good luck with your surgery! Keep hydrated! LOL

@@Chrystee, I wonder that myself. We've known that kidney stone was in her kidney for a couple of months now. They say when it's still in the kidney, it doesn't cause pain. She was having pain before in that area though so I don't know if I believe them. I wonder if it could cause nausea too even while it's still in the kidney. There was definitely nausea while it was out of the kidney on the way to the bladder. Not to mention, excruciating pain.

She's still having the nausea though. She's on Zofran and Phenergan and it isn't working. Or maybe it's working and the nausea would be even worse without it, who knows. She is so nauseated that she can barely drink Clear liquids and definitely can't tolerate Protein shakes. They have her on Clear Liquids only right now.

Her body is exhausted from all of this. :(

Thanks for the well wishes!

The doctors told me the same thing about the stone in the kidney doesn't cause pain, and it sure DID! I had pain and nausea for days with it only in my kidney. It did finally stop hurting etc for a few months, and then bam it happened again, but this time it was moving to come out. (This happened to me several times too, so I know it can still cause pain in the kidney) Hopefully those Fluid will push it and she gets relief.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
