Can you see the loss?

Recommended Posts

I am not looking for people to praise me, I'm not posting just for the attention. I know some people see these posts that way but others will understand. 16 weeks down 74 lbs and I have to be honest... I just can't see it. I think it's all in my head and I am trying to change that. I'm looking for "if you compare your ___ in both pics I see a difference" clearly if I went from a 30 pant to a 20 and shirts from 3x to 1x I have lost visible weight. I almost wonder if it's just that my shape is overall losing and the shape is staying the same and that's why I don't see it. Sorry it's such a long post.

Did you do measurements? For me, the only way for it to register in my head is inches gone. Clearly if you are down that many pant sizes, they you have lost.

I see a huge difference. You look great! Keep it up! I agree with keeping track of your measurements. When the scale is not budging, that is he only way I can tell that I am losing!

Often we are our own worse enemies. I can clearly see a difference in your before and after shots, but when I look at my own pictures other than a slightly thinner face I can't see the difference. I'm down 75lbs. I have to give away clothes. I had to buy a new bathing suit for Water aerobics. I am down 6 - 10 inches all around. I can fit in a regular chair with arms for the first time in years. Despite all of this, when I look in the mirror I have a hard time seeing the changes.

I know it's a mental thing and this is why I have to document it in other ways. I'm going to keep the dress in my before picture. When I hit 100lbs down Ill take another update picture.

You're doing great! Keep up the good work!

I see a huge difference in your before and after pics!! Especially in your stomach. Yes, your basic shape is still the same, but the size of your basic shape has definitely shrunk! I'm a bit over 4 months out and down 59 lbs. I started seeing/feeling the biggest difference in how my bra was fitting me before other clothes started getting looser. And I didn't go out and buy new clothes until my co-workers started telling me it was time because my clothes were too baggy. I agree with what the others have said. You may not see the difference yourself, but the inches are changing. Do a before and after picture of just your face and see if you don't see a difference.

Keep up the great work!!! Remember - for every pound we lose, we're a little bit healthier! Weight loss isn't the only goal.

Wow! What a difference. Thanks so much for posting this. I have a similar shape and have been feeling the same way. @@BLERDgirl is right- it's a mental thing.

Congratulations!

Yes I can see it.

I can see it in the way the top of your butt starts at a lower point (side-on), smaller boobs, less width to each side of the belly button (front-on), smaller lower-belly, less upper arm (compare how much of it you can see behind your forearm, in the front-on pics) and a longer, leaner line down to your navel instead of a big outwards curve (side-on) ☺

If you can, photograph yourself standing with your heels against a door - you'll be able to see your silhouette shrinking as the panelling detail gives you something to visually measure against.

It looks like your face is thinner. Your belly button isn't really hiding now. Your arms appear to be thinning out. Your probably losing proportionately, which is good! I have trouble seeing my achievements as well. I really believe it's a head thing! Keep up the good work.

Definitely narrowed in the stomach/sides. And your upper arms. Congrats!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
