Help!! What should I take to heal my pouch from indigestion/acid reflux? I'm 4 weeks post op from getting sleeved. I'm in the soft food stage. Could it be that my stomach isn't ready for this stage yet? Sometimes no matter how well I chew my food it hurts once it gets down to my stomach.

I was given a prescription for a PPI did you get one? If not you should ask for one.

My PPI is Omeprozol. At fifteen months, I am still taking it. I have tried a couple of times to get by without it, but within a couple of days, the reflux is back.

At 4 1/2 weeks, I started whole cooked foods as tolerated, and could eat meat, veggies, and fruit. What I still have to watch out for is Portion Control. if Miss Tummy gives me grief, it is usually because I have eaten one bite too many. She punishes me for hours.

Prilosec is the only thing that works for me.

indigestion/acid reflux???

@@Mrz Jess B.

yeachy feeling

in the hospital my doc told me to start taking prilosec for heartburn

he told me to take it every day indefinitely

works for me

tell your doc your situation

he probably will tell you a med to take

As @@Miss Mac mentioned

portion control is very important

at 4 weeks PO

your new little tummy might be objecting to food

telling you it can't handle too much

that could make your tummy feel bad

good luck :)

Thank you!! I have a script for prilosec but I'm having trouble swallowing the pill. I took 2 tums instead and had Cereal for Breakfast. I'm hoping it stays calm for the rest of the day. I'm just gonna stick to creamy foods for now just to let my pouch heal.

@@Mrz Jess B. If you ave trouble swallowing the pills, ask for the capsules. You can open them and mix them in some apple sauce or yogurt to take. Tums may not be as effective.

I'm still taking Pantoprazole (generic for Protonix). When I stop, my stomach hurts, but while I'm on it, no problems. My doc said it's the same as Nexium and Prilosec, but the prescription is double strength.

Nothing wrong with advancing your diet slower than recommended, just as long as you're getting your Protein in. However, Tums and Prilosec work *very* differently and are not interchangable in any way. In fact my surgeon advised me to stay away from Tums (and similar). Some of the PPIs and H2 inhibitors you can break in half or crush, but not all - double check your labels :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
