One month out and vomiting!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys so I'm a little over a month out from my surgery. Tonight I had some chicken... And wasn't paying too close attention as I was chatting, I think I ate too much too fast! I had discomfort and then ended up vomiting but now since then I can't seem to hold any liquids down!!! I'm kind of starting to freak out, has this happened to anyone? Is this "dumping" idk. A part of me is thinking of going to the ER to get checked out. Any thoughts?!?!

It would be best if your surgeon had an after hours number you could call. It is best if we deal with someone who best knows our special needs.

Dumping is from eating high fat or sugary things. It sounds like as you said you just overdid it. You may likely irritated your pouch. Since this was last night if it continues today call your doctor.

Thank you! Yeah I work nights so I am just getting home... By the end of my night I have been able to get Water down now... I am thinking it is just highly irritated. Drinking is still a little uncomfortable. Ughhh won't make this mistake again!! When I wake up if I still feel like this I will call the doctor! Thanks for your input!

I did that with salmon. Too dry, forgot to chew. It got "stuck". I called my surgeon and they said to give it 24 hours , it should pass. I hurried it along with some papaya enzymes from pharmacy. I felt better within 12 hours.

I will have to look into this papaya enzyme, I am feeling MUCH better today! Instead of eating Breakfast and lunch I opted for Protein Shakes and everything is staying down now! I'm gonna try solid food for dinner tonight. Phew that was scary though lol! Lesson learned!

My nut didn't want is to eat chicken for 3 months. She said it's the most common food people throw up. Smart to ease back into eating as you are still swollen from getting stuck. Rest in chicken and dry or stringy meats for a while. If you are still throwing up you may have a stricture.

I was allowed to eat chicken at both the pureed stage and the soft stage which began at 2 weeks post op. I did this with no problem and the trick is making sure that it is not overcooked and dried out.

You have to take great care to chew very well at this stage. If chicken or turkey is too dry you need to use some type of sauce or gravy to help make sure it does not get hung up.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
