What are bowel movements like after banding?

Recommended Posts

I know its a gross subject, but how is it? Are they pretty normal or has anyone experienced anything out of the usual?

Thanks

Well there's a thread that gets your attention! I'm recently banded so I don't think I'm a good example. I'm on liquids only and let's just say this: liquids in, liquids out. If you get my meaning.....

LOL

I've been banded for about 5 months now and no longer have bowel movements. I sweat a lot and am a little irritable, but other than that I'm fine, dammit, so get off my back!!

But seriously, they seem to be normal, just probably smaller and fewer, due to the smaller portions.

Lets say I have learned my lesson and recommend stool softener. It can be pretty hard (haha) to twist on the toilet after and "help yourself" along a bit. Gross. I had a couple days before the 1st one where I tried a baby suppository and Milk of Magnesia. Always take a softener when taking pain meds!

Yeah, liquid in = liquid out in the first stages.

But overall for me, totally normal. I eat carbs though - tend to have muesli for Breakfast or oatmeal most mornings, I eat wholegrain bread, I eat plenty of fruit and veges and am not very tight, so I get enough fibre to keep things moving.

I can become a little constipated if I dont watch it, only in the sense that I might not go ever day. I've never had to take anything, and I dont need a fibre supplement.

I'm almost 1 month out- on mushies (primarily Protein Shakes with some soft foods cause I'm picky) - for me, even getting in 60 oz of Fluid a day, I'm constipated and need to take colace. I hope the capsules don't get stuck after my first fill! Fiber is good if you take enough Water in otherwise it constipates

I have started adding Benefiber to all my Protein shakes. Changed my life! Two solid movements a day! Never had that before surgery!

It's also great for your heart and doesn't change the taste or texture of your shake! I highly recommend it to all who have bowel movement problems.

I was banded 2 days ago and I can't get too far from a toilet. Like one post said "liquid in, liquid out". My stomach rumbles the minute after I take one sip of anything and out it comes it seems.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
