How Many days in the Hospital?

Recommended Posts

I have been told that you stay in the hospital 24 hours or less. How long did was the stay?

I think it all depends on how well you do in the surgery....I will have my surgery on the 18th of this month but my surgeon said that most people leave after 2 to four hours. Best of luck

I'm getting banded in the morning. The surgery lasts 45 minutes to an hour and 15 minutes, go to recovery, and when you wake up you get to go home! Total time inside the building is supposed to be 3 to 5 hours.

I see you are getting banded in two weeks...good luck and a speedy recovery to you, and keep us posted!

Take care, Stef

I was taken back for surgery at 5:30 pm and left the hospital by 7:30 pm. I did have the option to stay in the hospital if I wanted to but knew I would get better sleep in my own bed.

My surgery was at 8:00 am. I didn't go home until around 5:00 pm the next day. I had the choice to stay that next night or not because I was still in pain. I chose to go home. At that point I just wanted to get out of there and go home where I could sleep through the night without someone waking me up every couple hours to poke and prod at me. But I can't imagine having the surgery and leaving a few hours later. God Bless all of you that did it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
