Any tips to get out of a stall?

Recommended Posts

I lost 33 pounds in 3 months, but I've been in a stall for 2 weeks. I am re-evaluating my diet and looking at ways to get more active. Any other advice on how to jump start my metabolism and get out of a stall? I only have 27 pounds to go, but I would like to start losing again, even if it's slowly.

gotta keep your body guessing. change up your routine, your eating habits. I was pretty much stalled over a month. I fasted (less than 600 calories a day) for a day and changed up my fitness routine and the scale started moving again. it worked for me.... good luck.

I can't fast, if I drop below 900 calories a day I stop losing weight (my body thinks it's starving and holds onto weight, this is a real thing, my doctor and nutritionist both see it sometimes in patients). I can certainly cut calories (which I already started doing), but I'll have to think of another way to 'shock' my system.

But it really, really helps to hear that I am not alone, and that other people were able to get out of stalls.

Stalls used to freak me out, but I "kinda" got used to them, they were just part of my process for losing weight.

During my 1st year post-op, I went through a stall almost monthly, usually lasting about a week. I never did find a sure fire way to break the stall. But I did get more comfortable and accepted them as part of the process.

I learned that if I stuck with my diet and exercise routine... what worked before would start working again. And it's held true for over 2 years. I've lost and kept off 170lbs.

If you are going to experiment, only change one thing at a time, like how much you exercise or how many carbs you're eating. Don't switch up multiple items at the same time, or you'll have a difficult time trying to figure out which changes were beneficial and which ones didn't help.

I went through a 4 week stall was the most frustrating time, didnt put on any weight and of course didnt lose. I completely changed what i was eating and when i was eating, i found that this helped me start the weight loss ball rolling again. I went back to having the shakes i was on pre op in the morning and two small meals later in the day.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
