Hi @@hanna91! It seems like we're kind of in the same boat. I'm meeting with my surgeon on the 30th of this month, doing tests in April and having my Nutrition/Psychological exams on the first of May. Hopefully I'll be approved to have surgery sometime in June.

I'm young, like you, and worried about the excess skin and exercise post-op. From what I hear, younger people generally have an easier time with skin issues because our skin is more elastic. One of my best friends had Gastric surgery about a year and a half ago, she's down about 100 pounds and hasn't had any issues with skin, but she exercises regularly.

Gives me hope!

I'm glad to see someone my age on the same timeline as me. Any idea when you might be having surgery?

So i have my nutrition appt March 24. Psych eval March 31 and surgical consult April 10. So I was hoping late April or early May. It will probably early May because of insurance approval and availability of the surgeon. I'm so excited. My sister and I are actually doing this together and my other sister had bypass 8 years ago. I'm 23 and my sister is 25. It's going to be a whole new life.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
