Not Hungry At All, Nauseated When I Eat

Recommended Posts

I'm just over 4 weeks out and I've noticed that over this past week I've felt almost no hunger at all. I know that's a big part of the surgery and everything, BUT forcefeeding myself hasn't been super fun but I don't want to be malnourished. I've tried reverting back to liquids and no matter what I consume I feel nauseated. No vomiting, though. Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes, I find myself eating because I *have* to eat, not because I'm hungry. I had my surgery on 1/13, so I'm a little ahead of you. I'm hoping that by keeping up with the Vitamins, Calcium, etc and trying to get my Protein close to 80g each day will keep me from becoming malnourished.

Yes, at first I was nauseated just thinking about eating. I also vomited very few days from eating 3 tablespoons of food intend of 2. It's getting better now.

The nurse told me that I can eat something that irritates my stomach and cause it to swell a bit creating less room for food. A couple of times I've had to go back on all liquids to quiet things down. She also told me it's pretty hard and pretty unlikely to be get malnutrition.

I have also found that one day I feel hungry and then the next few I'm not.

Best wishes to you!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
